FEC Chairman to Resign From Agency
FEC Chairman to Resign From Agency
Associated Press 12.07.06, 11:04 AM ET

Michael Toner, the Republican chairman of the Federal Election Commission, announced Thursday that he will resign from the regulatory agency this winter to pursue unspecified professional opportunities.

Toner's term as chairman ends Jan. 1 and his term as commissioner expires in April.

A longtime Republican political legal adviser, Toner was general counsel to the 2000 Bush-Cheney presidential campaign and chief counsel to the Republican National Committee before President Bush placed him on the FEC in March 2002 in a recess appointment. The Senate confirmed him in 2003.

"Important Bush Administration officials are ready to leave the government rather than undergo two years of hell from Democratic committee chairmen in Congress. Leading the exodus are officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), fearing investigation by two chairmen, Representatives Henry Waxman (D-CA) and John Dingell (D-MI)."

3. "to pursue unspecified professional opportunities."
Lobbyist for electronic voting firms? Going to go to work for Ashcroft or Delay or any other of the revolving door legions who screw up our government working for it and then go on to lobby for the folks they helped screw up our government for?

4. Sounds like a typical Bush appointee
He helps Bush get appointed in 2000 and as a reward gets named to the FEC? There's so much wrong with that I can't even get my head around it.

6. I can specify a good "professional opportunity" for him...
I think he would probably be pretty good at manufacturing license plates at the federal penitentary.

It is time to put this guy under oath before Congress and find out just how much he has been involved with the recent election fraud.

Making him walk the plank wouldn't work. The Sharks would refuse to eat him out of professional courtesy.
