Democrats criticize Bush's Hawaii visit

HONOLULU (AP) _ National Democrats issued a statement Tuesday criticizing President Bush's strategy in the war in Iraq.

Democratic National Committee spokesman Damien LaVera says voters in Hawaii and across the nation rejected his policies when they booted the Republican majority in both houses of Congress during this month's elections.

The D-N-C called Bush's visit to Hawaii an empty photo opportunity for him to appear with troops.

2. Not only that, but it was a photo op with *happy* troops.
I mean, who wants to pose with a bunch of dirty, bloody, discouraged and pissed guys in Iraq?

/sarcasm

3. He surely is skirting his responsibility at home by making
these empty gestures where he doesn't have to account for himself, or to us.

4. Often, even the "happy" troops are carefully selected for ...
Presidential photo ops. The brass will take no chances of one or more of the soldiers, sailors or marines enbarassing them.

6. Yeah, and it has to be getting more difficult to find "happy" troops
that want to pose for photo ops with the pResident.

He's on the way out, and everyone knows it.

5. There's only one reason for Bush's Hawaii trip
He was too chicken to spend the night in Jakarta.

7. Glad to see this
It might seem like carping, and maybe it is, but I like to see the Democrats making obvious points, because the media sure as the world aren't about to do it. Yes, the stopover in Hawai'i was nothing more than an empty photo opportunity (oh, and a chance for one of Bush's aides to get looped in the nightclub district and mugged). Keep calling it what it is, and maybe someday the tireless bulldogs of the Fourth Estate will stir from their slumber and mention it as well.

9. use of air force one
They should calculate the wear and tear on the tires and bill the RNC for maintainance cost for all the trips taken to try and get losers elected! Why should the taxpayers have to pay for trips that are not official?
