HUD Secretary Resigns
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A50195-2003Dec9.html

Mel Martinez, pressed by the White House to run for the Senate from Florida, said Tuesday he was resigning as secretary of President Bush's Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Martinez, the Cuban-born former chief executive of Florida's Orange County, has been near the bottom of polls that listed him among possible Senate contenders for the seat of retiring Democrat Bob Graham.

However, Bush political strategists have urged him to run, concerned that other Republican candidates might lose or create a backlash that would hurt the president's own re-election effort in 2004.

10. Considering that Bush likes appointing former senators
(Spence Abraham and John Ashcroft), possibly Tim Hutchison will be considered.

4. Actually there a great deal of "corruption" and lost $$$ at HUD
they probably want their guy in there to continue the looting.

For people who want to see for your self ...google HUD and see what Catherine Austin Fitts says about HUD (she left)

In fact ...listen to her on 12/24 on this radio program

http://www.meria.net/ ...she will be the guest that day.

7. lots of waste, most of it upstream...folks farther down the line have
worked hard to implement realistic programs. Martinez' "solution" was to cut or squeeze local programs instead of clean his federal house. Obviously, I just don't like the guy's MO....

11. Thanks for that link. Is Ms. Fitts another whistleblower?
I have sort of a theory about the phenomenon of female whistleblowers I'm working on.

6. I think I see
another rigged election in Fla. If Martinez is at the bottom of the pole why on earth does the WH want him to run? That is why I say another rigged election. There is nothing--absolutely nothing--this administration does that is not connected with corruption. It is interesting to note that they don't want K Harris, the one who rigged 2000 for GW. Wonder if she will write a book.
