U.S. Eyeing Israeli Tactics for Iraq Insurgents
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20031209/ts_nm/israel_iraq_dc&cid=564&ncid=1480

TEL AVIV (Reuters) - Mass assaults by covert squads of soldiers to confound guerrillas and swoops by troops posing as Arabs are among Israeli tactics U.S. forces are studying for use in Iraq (news - web sites), Israeli security sources said Tuesday.

Israeli measures have been honed against a three-year-old Palestinian revolt in the West Bank and Gaza Strip (news - web sites). Washington is watching, and recently sent military brass to consult with its chief Middle East ally.

"The Americans now realize their forces are in Iraq for the long haul, and are reorganizing accordingly," a senior Israeli security source said.

"Israel has been providing advice on how to shift from a reliance on heavy, armored occupation troops to mobile forces that are more effective in quelling urban resistance and cause less friction with the general populace."

That'll eliniminate terrorism from the face of the Earth, just as the Israelis have done in Israel!

3. Do these guys really believe what they say?
"Israel has been providing advice on how to shift from a reliance on heavy, armored occupation troops to mobile forces that are more effective in quelling urban resistance and cause less friction with the general populace."

less friction? um...yeah very successful...
You can see why Arab nations don't like Israel...or the US...lots less friction from simply getting out of the ME...
Oh yeah I forgot we have a right to impose democracy and save them and stuff...

4. Lt. Colonel Nathan Sassaman and Captain Todd Brown do!
"With a heavy dose of fear and violence, and a lot of money for projects, I think we can convince these people that we are here to help them."

Sassaman

"You have to understand the Arab mind. The only thing they understand is force. "

Brown

5. The IDF does use armor, that's a misconception.
The difference is that the Iraqis are well armed,
and the Palestinians are not. These guys may do a
good deal of damage, but they will also get their
heads chewed off.

6. Yes, US taxpayers buy armor for IDF, but not US troops

intriguing.

8. I meant tanks and such.
The ceramic plates seem to be in short supply everywhere
you go. I have read stories about not having enough for
the IDF in Haaretz lately too. Israel is even broker than
the US.

11. So little time, so many civilians to kill

I've read the ceramic plate stories, too, but the general idea I get from press reports is that the IDF troops are in much better shape, equipment-wise, than the US ones.

And ethically, too, see http://oznik.com/web_masters.html

3 - count'em - 3 lists of Israeli Heroes.

Where's the comparable US list, please?

13. I have seen stories about desertions,
in, um, respectable numbers too. I dunno
how much to believe them. But we don't have a
draft yet, either. When it get's compulsory you
can expect disobedience to rise.

7. Once again...
.... this adminsitration, faced with the impossible, adapts the improbable.

I suppose in some minds emulating a failed model is better than admitting you're in a hole but can't stop digging. :)

9. Little Israel has many Peace Lessons to teach Big America
Little Israel knows how to make peace, Ariel Sharon is a man with peace bursting from the veins in his forehead. Hand in hand with Bush, he will show us how to instill liberation and wholesome thinking in the Arab World. Daniel Pipes told me this in a series of sensible articles right here on DU! I am very thankful for these "MUST READ GREAT ARTICLES" - they changed my life!

Let's hear it for Little Israel & Big America: true Partners in Peace!

10. Oh Goodie! I can't wait!
I can't wait for us to enjoy the peace that
Sharon has brought his country!
I'll just bet the Iraqi people can't wait either!
We should probably start a donation fund to
help the Iraqis buy flowers to give to the IDF soldiers,
they obviously ran out of them for our troops.
Just think, maybe someday we can be JUST like Israel,
well maybe better, cause we are 'murikkkans, and everybody
loves us for bring democracy and freedom to them.
I'd say things are going to get better and better!
Delusionally yours,
BHN

you'll get to hear all about how "they" can't be trusted to govern themselves. "We" must do it all for them.

"We" are their saviours.

Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 08:26 PM by DrBB
Only the best, most successful enterprises are providing the models for our Iraq Adventure--Viet Nam, Israel-vs-the-Palestinians. I can't wait for our own Intifada. It's going to be so great.

like cruise missles and submarines as well as aircraft and sattelites.
