Iraq car bomb wounds 41 troops

US forces in Mosul have suffered three attacks in three days
Forty-one American soldiers have been injured in northern Iraq in a suicide car bomb explosion outside a US army base, the army says.
A spokesman for the 101st Airborne Division said the incident happened at a base in Tal Afar, west of Mosul.

Soldiers guarding the base fired on a vehicle that had failed to stop, said spokesman Major Trey Cate.

1. this is really awful......
<Right now we have four soldiers that were evacuated and are being treated for blast injuries. In addition, 37 soldiers have nicks, cuts, bruises and some broken bones," he said. A base translator also was injured in the blast, which damaged nearby homes.

Meanwhile, three U.S. soldiers died and one was injured in an accident when an embankment collapsed beneath their armored personnel carriers north of Baghdad, the military said Tuesday. The soldiers belonged to the 2nd Infantry Division's 3rd Brigade.

The deaths bring to 448 the number of U.S. soldiers who have died in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion on March 20. Of those, 308 have died as a result of hostile action. >

......Bring the Soldiers Home Now!

5. A cunning enemy realizes
that injuries are nearly as good as deaths. Personnel have to stop fighting long enough to evacuate wounded comrades from the battlefield, and then there's the strain that wounded (especially in large numbers) place on hospital facilities and staff.

"Relatively unsophisticated," my shiny metal ass!

Iraq Nam strikes again.

7. Usually 4 soldiers for every one injured are taken out of "battle"
Something like that. This is why anti-personnel landmines are not designed to kill but to injure/maim.

Sad very sad.

8. Notice the "Oh BTW the Pentagon has updated the # of injured" reporting?
That's how it played out on our local station and The Today Show. I'm sure with all this hullabaloo about Gore and Dean is just very much more important than forty freakin' one "injured" American soldiers.....oh none of these injuries are "life threatening" either.
