Israel trains US assassination squads in Iraq
Israeli advisers are helping train US special forces in counter-insurgency operations in Iraq, including the use of assassination squads against guerrilla leaders, Britain's Guardian daily reported Tuesday.

US special forces teams were already behind the lines inside Syria attempting to kill foreign Islamic extremists before they cross the border with Iraq, the newspaper said.

Citing unnamed sources familiar with the operations, it reported that a group focused on the "neutralisation" of Iraqi guerrilla leaders was being set up.

"This is basically an assassination programme. That is what is being conceptualised here. This is a hunter-killer team," a former senior US intelligence official told the paper.

2. General Boykin strikes again !
I knew there was a good reason he should have been cashiered. Here's the Guardian link:

Do you notice that our hunter/killer squads feel free to operate in Syria ? Does this mean we're at war with Syria ?

4. Agree Maggrwaggr...
Tsk tsk...well, we knew it was coming and we felt we were linked at the hip with Israel...now we know that we are no different than Israel and why this government can't point its finger at Israel. Know we also know the peoples of the ME who said that Israel was behind this and we were in bed with them...they were right!

<hangs head in shame>

6. Bush's entire foreign policy, conduct and strategy has its roots
in Israeli methods. Everything from assassination of leaders, to pre-emptive war, etc. is simply the Bush cabal emulating the Israelis.

19. Thanks for the link!
Excellent read...and disquieting in that Israel, and who knows which other nations, are using the results/mistakes of BushCo tactics to make geopolitical gains. Less than a year left to get Chimpy and Gang out of office. If the WH is stolen again, be ready for global hell to break loose.

7. oh this is what this Iraq thing's all about--Israel !!
Now they're training us to be killers?
Sick shit.
Who knows if the targets are real threats, mistaken, or just people they don't like.
I just wonder why the Israelis didn't send their own troops into Iraq in the first place?? No need I guess when they can get us to do their dirty work.

Our young people are dying for Israeli interests and Corporate interests and it is absolutely unacceptable.
The new U.S. independence day will be the day the U.S is OUT of the middle east !!
Murder and violence is no way to win friends in this world.

We are now the most hated nation on earth when we don't have to be.
The killers and their policies do NOT represent this country.

The Israelis play death ping pong for years and now we're taking lessons for the game that can't be won.
You kill us we kill you --never ends...

9. that worked so well in Vietnam didn't it.......
How many more soldiers and Iraqis need to die before the US learns, yet again, that a guerilla war is unwinable.

11. I thought Israeli assassination squads
were armed with 500lb bombs and copy of the phone book for the last known address of the target?
Who needs training like that?

12. There are some inconsistencies
Is it really an assassination squad when you call in attack aircraft to drop heavy ordnance on one person in a populated residential neighborhood? In the process innocent men, women and children are killed. Afterward, what isn't turned into rubble is bulldozed away.

I'm afraid the term "assassination squad" has become a euphemism for a much worse policy which violates international law. Taking instruction from Israelis on "assassination" methods is really nothing more than the adoption of a policy of unconventional, illegal and permanent warfare.

Of course, anyone with any knowlege of the middle east would have known that the invasion of the heart of Islamic world could only result in a state of permanent warfare. Hence, one must infer that it was the desired outcome.

Therefore, it wasn't Chalabi and company playing Cheney and Penacs for fools, it was Cheney and cronies playing the American public for fools.

14. Oh I'm sure they will be trained in all kinds of methods

From aerial bombing of residential areas, to tank fire into crowds of civilians, plain old stab em in a back alley, run over em with a tank, "intensive interrogation" of children - The Crusaders are nothing if not multi-talented.

17. This really isn't new news
in that Tovia Singer on Israel National Radio has been talking about Israeli advisors in Iraq for quite some time now.

And just like it's not working for the IDF, it will not work for the "coalition." It will only steel the resolve of the insurgency and turn other Iraqis against the occupation.

21. The US military
spent $380 billion in FY 03.
Will spend $401 billion in FY 04
Plus $75 billion authorized in Feb. 03
Plus $87 billion authorized in Sept. 03

That's early ONE TRILLION in two years.

And they need Israels help training soldiers?

22. Isn't the School of the Americas taking any new "students" now?
Oh, that's right. It will soon be winter break. Enrollment won't begin for the spring 2004 semester until next month. That must be the reason the US is going to the Israelis for assination lessons now: Bush doesn't want to wait.
