Harris' Prayer Call Stirs Concerns
By WILLIAM MARCH The Tampa Tribune

Published: Nov 4, 2006

TAMPA - U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, who has made past comments that raised questions about her religious sensitivity, prayed in a telephone prayer service recently that God would "bring the hearts and minds of our Jewish brothers and sisters into alignment."

<SNIP>

"We just decree and declare there will be a shift for this nation, that there will be an enormous revival, even a revolution as we speak," she prayed. "Once again, we'll rejoice, rejoice with your Son and bring this nation into alignment with your government with your kingdom principles and authority."

<SNIP>

She added, "And Father God, right now on the day after the Jewish new year, Father, after the day after atonement, as they enter into their new year, Father God, I just pray that you would bring the hearts and minds of our Jewish brothers and sisters into alignment." She prayed for the safety of Israel, "your sacred nation, Father."

She closed by saying that after the coming "shift" or revival, "Once again we'll rejoice, rejoice with your Son and bring this nation into alignment with your government with your kingdom principals and authority."

Campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Marks said Harris' reference to alignment of Jews meant that "the Jewish community historically voted Democratic. She was expressing her hope that the Jewish voters will recognize that she shares their ethics and values."

20. Well, she is still "double barrel", it's just not a barrel of fun anymore.
The rap on her is that she did perform pretty good in her last campaign debate. I guess the woman can't go for too long after acting intelligent before she has to reassert her core values--being an absolute lunatic.

Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 02:47 PM by AliceWonderland
It's wacky either way, and having God convert "unbelievers" to the Republican party is still extreme. Yikes.

On edit: this part is disturbing:

She closed by saying that after the coming "shift" or revival, "Once again we'll rejoice, rejoice with your Son and bring this nation into alignment with your government with your kingdom principals and authority."

Specifically, the "your government" part...

7. Specifically calls for conversion of the Jews
It is an integral part of Apocalyptic details that the jews be converted. others and other than their votes and the use of the Israeli military they don't give a damn. Underneath that too is a burning anger and prejudice against them for NOT cooperating as the second class religionists in the late line for submitting to Christian Power. Usually leads to pogroms.

The reiterated use of the word "alignment" makes it crystal sclear she is talking about conversion to "Kingdom" politics. Unfortunately for the Jews, it would ne "aligned but separate" as they have other nasty little tenets in the apocalyptic screed that call for a lot of Jewish deaths. You know in Islamic countries where they have people pushing for theocracy they actually have sincere zealots who provide a populist platform. The unbelievable scum we have selling this moonshine here have nothing but lies and criminal lives and instead, the governments of old, want a controlled Christian religion as a cynical state prop. Harris is about as sincere as Stalin and in any interpretation someone who must make people of Jewish descent appalled and nervous.

12. That's almost as funny as Ricky Bobby's prayer to Baby Jesus
Ricky Bobby: Dear Lord baby Jesus, we thank you so much for this bountiful harvest of Dominos, KFC, and the always delicious Taco Bell. I just want to take time to say thank you for my family. My two sons, Walker, and Texas Ranger, or TR as wse call him. And of course my red hot smokin' wife Carley, who is a stone cold fox.
Cal Naughton, Jr.: MMM
Ricky Bobby: Dear tiny infant Jesus...
Carley Bobby: Hey, um... you know sweetie, Jesus did grow up. You don't always have to call him baby. It's a bit odd and off puttin' to pray to a baby.
Ricky Bobby: Well look, I like the Christmas Jesus best, and I'm sayin grace. When you say grace, you can say it to grown up Jesus, or teenage Jesus, or bearded Jesus, or whatever you want.

I guess kathy H. prefers to think of her God as Daddy.

Secular America. That's the America I believe in. That's the America that has stood as a beacon for so long. I hope we can stop all the god-talk from politicians one day. Talk instead about what's right for ourselves, our neighbors, our communities, our nation, all the people we share this planet with -- talk about all that in terms of what's humane and just and effective and fair. Not "God sez so."

"alignment" is the kookoo part... very uncalled for. she should have only prayed for those who don't share her values (which I'm afraid aren't very valuable) to find God, anything beyond that is heresy. she's so insane... it's like she was once with it, and somehow she got hit with a falling fan at her home in her sleep, and her husband didn't tell her about it and now we get this off the rocker fruitcake.

How someone so whacked out nutty could ever get into the position that she's in is just more than amazing. For her own safety she should be under observation instead of running for politics.

Sounds like she's using their code for the rapture... "after the coming "shift" or revival". Most of them have the sense not to refer to it within hearing of the unwashed masses but she's farther gone off the rails than most of them.

54. I worry more about the part about the nation shifting
I mean, look, every person of faith wants everybody else to fall in line so they are "saved". That's normal, I guess, even if it's kinda beyond my scope of understanding. Nobody wants people to go to Hell. Well, maybe few, but admitting that is bad form. And Miss Alignment there finds it important (especially before an election) to Get Those Souls Saved Now!!!!

But what worries me is how she wants to align the nation (presumebly from the government on down) with Christ. Because that kind of thinking leads to FORCED alignment... the kind with 'alignment' camps and express routes to heaven via a bullet to the back of the head.

I think this sign says it all:

Every time I think Harris can't get any crazier, she happily proves me wrong.

I just used this H.L. Mencken quote in another thread, but it seems to fit here too:

One of the most irrational of all the conventions of modern society is the one to the effect that religious opinions should be respected...

(This) convention protects them, and so they proceed with their blather unwhipped and almost unmolested, to the great damage of common sense and common decency.

That they should have this immunity is an outrage. There is nothing in religious ideas, as a class, to lift them above other ideas.

On the contrary, they are always dubious and often quite silly. Nor is there any visible intellectual dignity in theologians. Few of them know anything that is worth knowing, and not many of them are even honest.

61. Keep on talking, Katherine!
Say anything that pops into your pretty little mind.

The more she talks, the fewer votes she'll get.

62. She is totally whacked isn't she?
I mean who the hell says something like that?

And even if you'd be crazy enough to BELIEVE it, who SAYS it in Florida?

Totally off her rocker.

65. LOL, this part is so FUNNY: president of Jewish group "said he couldn't tell what Harris meant..."
snip: Jeffrey Pasek, president of the Jewish Social Policy Action Network, said he couldn't tell what Harris meant, but said he is troubled by her comments.

66. "Kingdom principles and authority" is code for Dominionism.
Harris is trying to court those who's philosophical bent is towards Dominionism and the establishment of a theocratic state in the US.

I would not shed a tear upon hearing of her demise and those of the Dominionist she is trying to address. They are a threat to the very fabric of this country and deserve nothing less than expulsion and/or incarceration.

and believe me, I'm talking :scared: to the Nth Power.

It's the height of religious intolerance and arrogance, IMO; I anticipate quite a reaction from Jewish groups on this. :yikes:

68. There's one in every election year
The race that's worth watching nationwide for the comedy, the schadenfreude, and the "Oh No They Didn't" factor, as well as the satisfying ominous rumble of the oncoming landslide that everyone but the delusional candidate hears.

In '04 it was my state, IL. This year it's FL. Congrats, Cruella. You're this year's Alan Keyes!

72. Okay, if she wins after this, that'll be the best proof of election fraud ever.
Given the fact that she just lost Florida's very large Jewish vote.

73. lol
I hate the nickname Cruella, but whatever.
At least we have a few Republicans who actually say what they they really think and want: religious conversion and theocratic government. While not all Republicans want this, enough of them campaign this way, and it's nice to see someone not try to hide it...

The woman offends whole races even when shes praying...

And it's, 'God, make everyone see the way I do....'

coming from that selfserving election stealing politically corrupt hag, I could see the diety she's praying to getting offended.
