U.S. cites talks to secure man‘s release (US negotiating with Sadr for GIs' release)
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 04:08 PM by ECH1969
The U.S. military said Thursday that there is "an ongoing dialogue" to win the release of a kidnapped American soldier.

Caldwell identified the service member as Ahmed Qusai al-Taayie, a 41-year-old reserve soldier. He was visiting his Iraqi wife when he was handcuffed and taken away by gunmen during a visit to the woman‘s family, Caldwell said.

"She is so upset that she keeps threatening to take her own life," Nasser said of al-Taayie‘s wife.

The Mahdi Army is a Shiite militia loyal to anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. The soldier‘s religious affiliation was unknown; his wife‘s family is Shiite Muslim.

Its interesting how Sadr has been able to litterly get away with murder in Iraq from day one and the US has been too weak and scared to get rid of him. Team Bush talks tough, but they are wimps.

Shrub can do what we wants. They need his release politically lest be said to have abandoned a US soldier
edited for spelling.

5. I wonder if he'll end up providing material aid or support in exchange...
...not that there are any laws against that or anything. Oh, wait.

7. Little Scotty said, "We do not negotiate with terrorists. We put them out of business."
on Jan. 19, 2006. ---- http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/01/20060119-6.html

Bush argued back in 2002 that "no nation can negotiate with terrorists. For there is no way to make peace with those whose only goal is death." -----

8. "get rid of al-Sadr"??
with several million angry Shiites the result? I can not see how that would accomplish anything except more bloodshed. The US needs to get the fuck out. Period.
