Mideast hopes for policy shift in U.S. midterms
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 07:51 PM by onehandle
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- Arab governments are looking for change in U.S. policy in the Middle East after the midterm elections.

One thing they hope for is that a politically weakened President Bush would talk with Iran and Syria. They also hope he would show greater interest in the Palestinians and find a way out of the crisis in Iraq.

Israel also is watching for any sign of change in U.S. strategy -- especially toward the Palestinians, Syria and Iran.

"The whole region is volatile and it cannot face more problems and challenges," Arab League official Hesham Youssef said in a recent interview. "They cannot leave it like this, neither in Iraq nor in Gaza nor in Lebanon. More conflicts could be ahead."

Mideast watches U.S. election (...is the headline on "fair and balanced" CNN homepage. This whole AP article is "fair and balanced")

2. Amen, stepnw1f
We need to change the regime here to one which will be willing to talk to other nations, and show them respect. Under Bush, there are too many demands, and not enough diplomacy. It is not a show of weakness to engage in dialog with other sovereign countries, and realizing this would, I believe, smooth the way for more give and take.

As it is now, we issue demands, and expect other countries to do as we dictate. This is not a policy which will lead to a lasting peace, or a just world. Cowboy diplomacy is dead, a rotting corpse which taints our relationships world wide. It's past time for Bush and his Neanderthal neocons to give the reigns of power to adults, who are not interesting in measuring dicks to determine strength.

3. If by Middle East you include Saudi then that is pure crap.
Saudi Arabia is just happy as a bug in a rug with the bushes. They even lowered gas prices temporarily right before the election for the bushes' repuke friends the fake conservatives. No Saudi likes things just the way they are and are funding the house of bush and repukes to ensure they can keep screwing Americans over the price of oil.
