Nelson's ties to firm explored

BY ROBYNN TYSVER

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska helped steer millions of federal dollars toward a fast-growing defense contractor that employs the senator's son.

Patrick J. Nelson, 34, is marketing director for 21st Century Systems in Omaha, which also has opened a satellite office in McCook - the senator's hometown - and has four other offices around the nation.

Ben Nelson, a Democrat, faces Republican Pete Ricketts in the Nov. 7 election.

The Ricketts campaign raised questions about Patrick Nelson's employment with the firm.
