Laura Bush Asked to Help China Dissidents

BEIJING (Reuters) - The wives and mothers of four jailed Chinese cyber dissidents have asked U.S. First Lady Laura Bush to help secure their release, a spokeswoman said on Monday hours after Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in the United States.
"Please say a few words on behalf of the wives and mothers on the other side of the ocean," they said in a letter addressed to Laura Bush and handed recently to the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.

Asked why they wrote to the First Lady, spokeswoman Lu Kun, the wife of Yang Zili, a computer engineer who turns 32 this week, said: "She's a woman like us and she pays more attention to the rights of women and children.

Yang and his friends, Xu Wei, 29, a journalist; Jin Haike, 28, a geologist; and Zhang Honghai, 30, a freelance writer, were sentenced in May to between eight and 10 years in prison for posting essays critical of the government on the Internet. One essay was titled "China's democracy is fake."

It sounds like another "Bush urban legend". It most likely is another staged play. Since Hillary got a little publicity in Afganistan and Iraq, well deserved, I notice more pieces telling about Laura and some read like they are hard pressed to find something to say about the talents of Laura, but the photo is really really weird. She is truly looking wired.
The photos was not included with the pieceere is a very weird photo of the frump, who was standing in front of a lighted Christmas tree, taken by Jason Reed, Reuters cameraman. He used a slow shutter speed and simultaneously with the shutter , worked the zoom. I do not think this can be done with digital cameras, although some of the newer professional ten thousand dollar models, might allow for that.
