Fighting With Suspected Militiamen Leaves 30 Dead
At least 12 Iraqi policemen are dead in a new round of fighting with suspected militiamen. The trouble broke out in a town outside Baghdad. Local authorities say 18 gunmen were also killed.

They're believed to be part of a militia controlled by an anti-American cleric in Iraq.

Many minority Sunni Arabs have fled their homes in that town as militiamen pour in. The same fighters killed numerous Sunnis in a nearby city last week.

1. why does the Media write a sentence like this?
"They're believed to be part of a militia controlled by an anti-American cleric in Iraq."

let me help: They are believed to be members of the Madhi Army, controlled by Moqtada Al Sadr.

4. 12 Iraqi police officers were killed here
I am sure there are Sadrists in the Iraqi police. But, they wouldn't be fighting the Madhi Army if they were all the same.
