Journalist, his wife found dead in their house west of Baghdad
BAGHDAD, Oct 26 (KUNA) -- An Iraqi journalist and his wife were found dead in their house in Amiriyah area west of the capital, said a security source on Thursday.

The source added that the couple were shot dead by mysterious murders.

The journalist, identified as Saad Shalash, was a professor at Mustansiriya University and worked as an editor for the Arab banner newspaper, which is published by the National movement party Subhei Abdul-Hamid, the ex-Iraqi Foreign Minister during the 1960's. He also was an editor in the Iraqi News Agency for 20 years.

Since Iraq was liberated in 2003, violence in the country claimed the lives of over 4,000 Iraqis.

8. This story is from the Kuwait state news agency (KUNA)
They might be tempted to shade things a bit. Although overall, I've found their Iraq coverage to be pretty good.

3. I wonder if the "mysterious murderers"...
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 01:40 PM by Mithras61
used 5.56mm or 7.62mm ammo?

I know it's an ugly thought, but it wouldn't be the first time we targetted journalists...

Also, where did that "4,000 Iraqis" figure come from? Last time I checked, it was somewhere between 150,000 and 650,000 depending on the source. I believe more than 4,000 died in Fallujah alone...

7. Since Iraq was liberated?
Interesting word, "liberated." You would think those people would be grateful. Where are those damned flowers that were supposed to be thrown at their "liberators," anyway?

:sarcasm:

RIP, Saad Shalash and wife. May you know paradise forever.
