ANACONDA — A field organizer for the Montana Democratic Party in Butte and Anaconda has been reported missing after failing to meet with volunteers on Saturday in Butte.

Robert Hollister Reneau, 26, was last seen in Anaconda Saturday afternoon by volunteers he was supervising. The group decided to meet for dinner in Butte, but Reneau didn't show up.

``He is one of our best field organizers and just a wonderful young man,'' Jim Farrell, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party, said Tuesday. ``He's in our thoughts and prayers. We are praying for his speedy return.''

Reneau, who goes by the names Rob and Hollister, is 6 feet tall, 180 to 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Also missing is his 1999 Toyota 4-Runner with Montana license plate number 4C-49708.

Reneau spoke with his parents around noon Saturday and has not answered e-mails or his cell phone since. He usually talks with his parents frequently, said his mother, Susan Campbell Reneau.

She asks anyone who sees him or his vehicle to call police or his parents at 406-251-5116.

1. My Goodness, I don't want to stumble over into
paranoia but the fact that he was organising for a growing progressive movement in a state where conservative support has been a stalwart thing, this brings up VERY disturbing pictures.

11. Well,
my first thought was of the movie Mississippi Burning. I hope it's just my overactive imagination and my conspiracy theorist side coming out. I hope he turns up, alive and well, soon.

3. Two possible scenarios:
1. He was kidnapped/killed.

2. He'll be found aimlessly wondering with no real reason for why he's gone, a la the Nh Congressional candidate a few months back. In that case, I really hope this doesn't hurt Tester.

20. Is that it?
I suppose that running off the road into a ditch or tree is out of the question? It's a big state with a lot of sparsely populated reigons.

6. Oh, Man my good thoughts are with the kid
Montana is not a state to 'get lost' in. It's cold and BIG and, well, scary at times. Let's hope he's found and okay.

Bush now has that power... scarey and hopefully a ridiculous notion to think, but it's now possible.

14. What's scary is the fact that anyone would ever think that!
What has bush* done to our beloved country? Never mind...it would take a book to answer that question.

10. Folks I hope he is okay....but the thing that came to mind
was the the two Jewish men and the Black man that were kidnapped in Mississippi registering blacks to vote....I would say it's paranoid however; with two weeks to go... these racist hate mongering Neocons will stoop to anything....

I think it will get that bad....

13. Once upon a time, I lived in a country...
...where if a person didn't show up for a meeting, I would assume it was because of a tragic accident, or some other unforseen or random circumstance.

Now you have to wonder what happens to people, because we no longer legally guarantee what can't happen to them.

people of the politically incorrect political party turn up missing?
I don't want to seem alarmist, but the paranoia or our delusional leader has been rubbing off on many of our fellow countrymen. I hope this young man turns up alright, but right now I'm really concerned.

by all of the worst case scenarios. I can't help it - this just feels bad.
I pray it's not but he doesn't appear to be the type to just run off. I hope we can keep this thread kicked up so lots of people see this. It's important.

Reneau was taken to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, where he is undergoing tests, said his mother, Susan Campbell Reneau. She wasn't sure exactly where her son had been but said illnesses he contracted while working for the Peace Corps in Africa made him disoriented.

"We don't really know all that happened," she said late Tuesday. "He became disoriented and somehow got himself almost home." The family is "absolutely relieved and jubilant" to have found him, she added.

Robert Reneau was reported missing after failing to meet with volunteers on Saturday in Butte. He was last seen in Anaconda Saturday afternoon by volunteers he was supervising. The group decided to meet for dinner in Butte, but Reneau didn't show up.

Susan Reneau said members of Jon Tester's campaign were extremely helpful in the search, along with law enforcement officers with the Butte and Anaconda police departments and the Missoula County sheriff's office.

it's good to have a strong leader at your side when you're in trouble... looks like Jon Tester is up to the challenge!

26. It's pretty amazing that his disorientation difficulties haven't interfered
with his field organizing work. He must be a very determined guy.

I'm wondering what sort of illnesses would create a problem like this....Malaria?

Here's to a speedy recovery! :toast:
