(Kansas GOP Congressman Jim) Ryun's Story On Foley Changes
CJOnline.com/Topeka Capital Journal
Monday, October 23,2006

Worried about winning a sixth term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Jim Ryun said this month he didn't know until
recently that he lived across the street from disgraced Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla. -- whom many Republicans
are trying to keep at a safe distance.

Then, when faced with questions about how that could be the case considering Ryun in May hosted a
fundraiser alongside Foley on D Street in Washington D.C., Ryun's campaign said the events weren't
jointly planned.

However, neither of those statements was completely accurate, Ryun's campaign admitted last week.

Jeffrey Black, campaign manager for Ryun, said the congressman always has known he lived across the
street from Foley, who quit Congress after revelations he had been sending sexually explicit e-mails
to congressional pages.

Further, Black acknowledged the two congressmen, along with three other members who live of D Street,
coordinated their efforts to raise as much cash as possible during a may fundraiser.

But Black stressed the fundraiser was put together by campaign staff members, not Ryun.

Jim didn't speak to Congressman Foley or any other Congress members about this," Black said.

3. He should have stuck to running in track meets.
He isn't very good at politics.

4. Just like no one knew Foley was gay
until this story broke and now everyone knew he was gay all along.

Now they want to pretend they didn't know him at all, despite the fact that they all knew each other very well.

6. With Ryun it's hard to tell - is he truth-challenged . . .
or just dumb as a mud fence?

Maybe a little of both . . .

7. Another thing that Jim Ryun didn't mention...
... is that sometimes, he and Mark Foley would be in their beds, across the street from one another, and sit under their blankets at night with walkie-talkies and gossip about boys.

8. Well, we already knew that Jim Ryun could run very fast.
Hey, running away from Foley, ole Jim may have a three-minute mile.
