Russian Deputy Drug Czar: US Soldiers Becoming Drug Addicts in Afghanistan
MOSCOW, December 5. US soldiers are developing a drug addiction problem in Afghanistan, said Deputy State Drug Controller Alexander Mikhailov. He said that there have already been several occurrences of drug addiction among US soldiers in Afghanistan, but the US leadership is keeping it quiet. 'They don't have control of the situation. This should be a good example for our troops in Tajikistan,' said Mikhailov.

7. I can't blame them
I would do anything to avoid thinking about what I was doing and trying to escape from it. No, no blame for the troops but an immense, angry blame for the people who are behind this war. ALL of them regardless of Party or country.

I'd be shooting up a storm if I were over there...

18. Well, the government sent them there. No nation attacked us but we
invaded at least two nations. The Taleban had the drug situation pretty much under control in Afghanistan until we attacked them. Remember, the people who attaced us were mostly Saudi citizens yet we attacked Afghanistan and Iraq. Why didn't we send the Saudis in to get Osama?

11. I've got uncles in that' long ago' war
They do not all behave(oh BEHAVE!!!) in the same way....neither experienced a mai lei. They do not even know how to spell it. But they're both great guys.
They fulfilled their duties.

End of story.

Do not critcize those at 'war' unless you have facts or you have experienced the same first-hand

PS coming from a forty +/- female- never in the mil

16. They are being FORCED
to take some of those drugs.
eg MODAFINLIL
The Air Force is extensively researching a new drug called Modafinil, which many insiders believe is a safer alternative to Dexedrine, and is used commercially to counter narcolepsy sufferers. Modafinil users are allegedly free of the jittery and irritable side effects associated with amphetamines.
The Air Force has come under fire in recent months for prescribing pilots amphetamines to pilots. Defense lawyers for two American pilots, who accidentally killed four Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan last year, argue the Air Force-issued dexamphetamine was to blame for the accident. The amphetamine is called the "go pill" in military circles.

19. I was referring to the 9 children killed just a few days ago
In Afghanistan, where that A-10 pilot accidentally killed them while attempting to kill a suspected terrorist. I'm sure that pilot had no way to know there were children in that building at the time he was given orders to fire, so I wouldn't call this a modern-day Mai Lei. I do know that, if I were in his shoes, I'd be devastated for the rest of my life. Turning to drugs is a common way to deal with those emotions.

How you extrapolated that into me critizing Vietnam vets is beyond me. I too have an uncle who fought there, and while he's a great guy, he's still messed up from the entire experience (he sleeps with a loaded .44 Mag under his bed!). I have nothing but sympathy for the soldiers who were forced to fight there, including my uncle and your's.

9. I've only heard bits and pieces about this substance
I've read it is very effective helping addicts kick the habit, but why is it illegal?

13. question
I've never been predisposed to drugs--never even smoked a cigarette and rarely take aspirin.

The drugs Limbaugh was taking: what desired effect was he trying to achieve?

14. I have taken oxycontin before.....
Legally of course. It was prescribed a couple of times for pain in the last few years. I took it only as prescribed being fully aware of how highly addictive it is. It made me feel pretty damn good! I know you build a tolerance to it quickly and need more and more to achieve the desired affect.

15. So Bu$hCo won't even let the troops
have a beer or a good stiff drink, what the hell do they expect. People will find ways to escape from unbearable situations, either physically or mentally. Seems with all those poppies sprouting up all over the place in Afghanistan, it's probably a lot easier to by the hard stuff than it is to buy a six pack.

21. there's a hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes
Sam Stone
by John Prine

Sam Stone came home,
To the wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knees.
But the morhpine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a purple heart and a monkey on his back.

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.

Sam Stone's welcome home
Didn't last too long.
He went to work when he'd spent his last dime
And soon he took to stealing
When he got that empty feeling
For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.
And the gold roared through his veins
Like a thousand railroad trains,
And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,
While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes...

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.

Sam Stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon,
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair.
Well, he played his last request,
While the room smelled just like death,
With an overdose hovering in the air.
But life had lost it's fun,
There was nothing to be done,
But trade his house that he bought on the GI bill,
For a flag-draped casket on a local hero's hill.

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
