Economic Report: Factory Output Drops, Core Inflation Is Up

Core inflation – which excludes energy and food – jumped six tenths of a percent for September, the biggest increase in 20 months. A big drop in gasoline prices, though, helped overall wholesale inflation drop 1.3 percent. Meanwhile the output of U.S. factories, mines and utilities dropped by six tenths of a percent, the worst performance since the shutdowns caused by Hurricane Katrina. The wholesale inflation and intrial output declines are further evidence of a slowing economy.

Diesel is appreciably easier and less expensive to refine than is unleaded gasoline.

Every time you drive by a gasoline station, check the difference between the price of diesel and unleaded.

The price of diesel has an immediate effect on the price(s) of everything you purchase.
