Moul, Fortenberry debate Iraq policy

LINCOLN (AP) - Democrat Maxine Moul accused first-term Republican Rep. Jeff Fortenberry on Tuesday of buying into the "empty rhetoric" of President Bush regarding the war in Iraq.

"Unfortunately, my opponent and President Bush ... believe that empty rhetoric like 'Staying the course' can win the war in Iraq," Moul said during the pair's last debate before the Nov. 7 election.

"We have to do a serious and frank assessment of where we are at," she said.

Bush told Iraq's prime minister on Monday he has no plans to pull U.S. forces out of the country, in a conversation that underscored Iraqi worries that the president is being pressured to curtail America's role in the war.
