Mo. High Court Strikes Down Voter ID Law
<snip>

"The Missouri Supreme Court struck down the state's new voter identification law Monday that would have required voters to show a photo ID card at the polls starting this fall.

A lower judge ruled last month that the ID requirement was an unconstitutional infringement on the fundamental right to vote. The state Supreme Court agreed in a 6-1 unsigned opinion.

The new law would have required voters to show a photo identification card issued by Missouri or the federal government before they could cast a ballot. Voters lacking the ID would be allowed to cast a provisional ballot this fall, but after that, only the elderly, disabled and those with religious objections could vote without one, and only by provisional ballot.

The court found the requirement violated several provisions in the state constitution. The justices said requiring otherwise legitimate voters to obtain an appropriate ID imposed too great of a burden on their voting rights."

3. This is what angers me so much about this kind of nonsense...
When exposed to the harsh light of judicial review, this bullshit shrivels up and dies. Crap like this never has any legal merit, whatsoever, and all it does is waste the bench's time and confuse voters. And yet they just keep coming....why do these measures even make it this far?

6. Two words-majority party. They actually voted 'aye' for voter ID
in the house recently. It was patently obvious the repugs wanted to marginalize the poorer voters and those more likely to vote Dem.
We really need to change that next month.

And off topic, your graphic is funny/scary! :scared:

8. simple-mindedness
wrapped up in the idea that Americans are good - except for "those people" who are not. And we all know who "those people" are. Wrap it up in a snappy slogan... and away we go.

If you're innocent, you've got nothing to hide. "Those other people" do.
"Welfare cheats" voting for Republicans to catch "those other welfare cheats".
Minimum wage makes prices go up and only 'those other' people can't get better jobs anyway.
If you're a good worker, you don't need a union. Only 'those other' (lazy) people need job protection.
Honest citizens shouldn't care about showing their ID since only 'those other' people would cheat.

That's how this crap gets passed, people who think in terms of them and us instead of inalienable rights for every citizen.
