Tata, Indian Outsourcers Boosted by Boom
OCT 16, 2006 11:19:38 AM

India’s largest outsourcer, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), reported revenue of US$975 million in the second quarter, up 42 percent from the same period last year, with new clients and more business from existing customers boosting the company’s bottom line.

The company’s profit for the quarter that ended Sept. 30 was $216 million, up 44 percent from the same quarter last year, Tata said Monday.

Tata also added 58 customers and hired 8,919 employees in that period.

India’s top outsourcing companies are expected to have strong results for the most recent quarter, with a market boom under way.

India’s second-largest outsourcer, Infosys Technologies of Bangalore, last week reported 42.4 percent growth in revenue and 44 percent growth in profits in the quarter that ended Sept. 30. The company forecast that its revenue will cross $3 billion in its fiscal year, up more than 40 percent over the previous fiscal year.

1. And the quality of the software is still sub crap.....
I am glad they're making money, but if I have to clean up one more large pile of crap from Tata, I'm going to puke.

2. TCS is the Crappiest of the Bunch......
They treat their employees like crap, and do shoddy work. Take for example an employee who has just arrived in the US, TCS will not even pay for a taxi ride from the airport to their shared apartment. No the employee has to call a given number and hope that the employee TCS comes around to pick up that person.

3. Amen brother! I've found you can make a decent
living here in the US by cleaning up failed offshore outsourced projects. The problem is that companies won't spend the time or money to rewrite the entire 'pile of crap', and usually look for the quickest way to get the project functional... this usually yields only a lesser piece of crap unless you are able to convince management of the cost savings of a major rewrite by producing a stable product on the initial release.

4. Tata is lousy by nature.
I bought a fixed line telephone connection from them. within two months i cancelled it because the fucking thing just did not work, cut me off in mid conversation, and their hapless techs who came to fix the phone knew as much about telephones as bush knows about iraq. to top it all, i got an inflated bill both months.
its been a year, and they still havent returned my 'refundable initial deposit' of a 1000 bucks (rupees, not $), despite repeated requests.
its my number one nominee for 'worst corporate in india.'
