GOP Strategists Says Democrats Likely to Take HouseAnd Not Only the House -- GOP Insiders Say Democrats Could Win Senate Too

Oct. 16, 2006— Optimism and realism are two of the essential ingredients for winning in politics.

During the three national election victories presided over by George W. Bush and his top political adviser Karl Rove — in 2000, 2002 and 2004 — the Republican Party had reason to be both optimistic and realistic about its prospects for victory.

But regarding the 2006 midterms, just three weeks away, many Republican strategists and party donors believe the only realistic position is one that's far from optimistic. With an unpopular war hanging over their heads and President Bush in his sixth year in office (when a president's party typically suffers significant congressional losses), numerous Republican sources believe that Democrats are likely to win more than the 16 seats they need to win back control of the House and could possibly gain the six Senate seats required to resume control of that chamber.

...

The problem, many Republicans say, is that that recipe no longer appears on track, and they are losing faith that what has worked in the past will be enough to allow the party to keep control of Capitol Hill. Both the Bush White House and congressional Republicans are loath to think about what the last two years of the administration will be like if Nancy Pelosi becomes speaker of the House, but, increasingly, that reality that is being increasingly pondered in the nation's capital.

5. Watch the money shrink for the GOP and pour into the DNC.
Nobody backs a loser for too long.

Great - love the gloomy gop outlooks. Better than any ad the DNC can ever come up with.

In fact, at this point - the more B*sh tries to be outwardly optimistic about the election, the more he looks completely disconected from reality. He is in a catch 22 here.

6. I'll give you an example of how sick people are of corruption
A right-wing jerk is tied with a machine-politics asshole in Chicago in race for president of the Cook County board. Todd Stroger, the asshole, is the son of John Stroger, the former president who won a bitter primary even though he was a vegetable at the time. Todd, the kid, kept coming out and saying his father was just ducky, and since no one could see him, the papers couldn't prove he wasn't. Stroger beat the reform candidate, Claypool, and only then was it released that he was a veg. They came up with some phony "signed" papers saying he wanted his son to run in his place.

Chicagoans, who are mainly dems, are so repulsed by this shit, a lot of us are actually voting for a wingnut, figuring will be alone on the council and pretty much powerless. When Dems are totally corrupt, they should be voted out. It's going to kill me, but I'm voting either for Paraica (the jerk) or write in Claypool (a good guy) in protest.

I doubt most Repukes are that far yet, but a lot have told me they're just not voting this year.

Many of the people on this forum are people of deep conviction and of action. November the 7th is a day that all of us cannot sit on our laurels. We need to get our friends who are fair weather Democrats out and voting. Drive them to the polls, assist groups keeping an eye out for illegal behavior, stand outside with a bloody sign with a damn message. Anything, something.

Remember folks it's not just about our country, the world is rooting for us and let us not forget them. This race is the most important in our nations history, it that important.

Remember, remember the 7th of November!

11. I wonder if this a bone they intend to throw us.
Whether we win or lose, my tinfoil hat is crazy glued to my head. If the Dems win, it will be like thinking your cancer is cured because your hair grew back. This country is by no means healthy no matter who wins.

13. Visualize impeachment/ accountability
Visualize impeachment/ accountability (NOT revenge) or at the very least some investigation in this cess pool of corruption.
(No time to get complacent though. Let's GOTV).

14. It's all about winning seats for repugs, they don't care about the
real issues. Diebold will make sure Democrats don't restore checks and balances. America has never and will never be the same since the 9/11 debacle under incompetent repugs. It's a sick sick world. The only way things will change in America is from outside world pressure when they start putting sanction on our OIL. Then will America wake up and realize that this Bush regime has turned America into a hated country, isolated and on the tip of economic collapse. That will be the end of the repug era for good.
