NEW YORK (AP) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday toured the carbon trading floor at Credit Suisse Securities, where emissions allowances are bought and sold, as he prepared to take his green initiatives to the East Coast.
The governor was to announce an executive order Monday connecting California's landmark global warming law with the Northeast's program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
...
The Northeast program involves seven states that plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions at power plants beginning in 2009.
Under the program, power plants will be granted a limited number of so-called carbon credits, equaling the amount of carbon dioxide they are allowed to emit. Those that exceed their limits must purchase credits to cover the difference, while those that produce less carbon dioxide than they are legally permitted can sell their surplus credits for a profit.
Linking California to that program could help California power plants meet their obligations under the state's new global warming law.
1. This is a greenwashing operation. Don't expect GHG reductions
from these sham programs any more than you would expect pollution reduction from the "Clean Skies" law that Bush passed. Most carbon emissions in California come from CARS and Ahnold is doing nothing real to support a transition away from the private automobile.
3. Environmentalism must be the opiate of the left.
the way Arnold is using the environment to lure Democrats away from voting for the Democrat is interesing. The way Demcorats are falling for it is a little sick.
Why don't Democrats care about people who work for a living and about how Arnold sees them as guarantors of corporate profits? Why don't californians care about how the tax code hurts them and protects big businesses from having to pay, for example, property tax?
