Well, at least Chimpie will have an excuse not to go to Vietnam...again.

3. MSNBC is running this as a breaking news story
Now I guess it's ultra-confirmed.

Also, the bomb was less than one kiloton.

4. Didn't know that...
I've been nursing a bum ankle the last few days and haven't kept up with the news.

MSNBC ought to update their home page.

10. it IS two day old news. I read it a few days ago.
Guess they thought it got lost in the news dump over the weekend. Odd how only the US got a positive reading... not the numerous other countries that reported the day or two before.

11. Not quite - the earlier reports said it wouldn't be confirmed until monday
something about preliminary results.

14. A nuke blast produces decay particles.
Just releasing uranium won't work. Take off the tin foil hat.

16. Maybe that food is not forthcoming from the US
and North Korea just put the world on notice that they can build 'suitcase bombs', a very marketable item that bad people wearing dark glasses and trench coats with deep pockets would love to acquire to further their cause. How's that for a tinfoil hoax idea?

18. No they didn't.
First off, we're still not sure if this was an actual nuclear explosion.
Second, we don't even know if the air samples are accurate in this case since we are the only people who have detected a positive.
Third, just detonating a nuclear device does not instantly give you the ability to miniaturize it to the point where you can put it into a suitcase or backpack. Miniaturization is one reason our ICBM's have 12 to 16 warheads a piece instead of one. I don't think NK has developed MIRV technology yet.

19. Maybe NK skipped page one and knocked off their own version of our SADM
The MK 54 has a yield from .01 to 1.0 kiloton, and it's not really miniaturized, it weighs 160 pounds.

21. Only 160 lbs. Perfect for my backpack.
It's great for a truck bomb though. Though it would probably only level a single city block. The big problem with nuclear bombs is how easily they can be detected with a simple neutron detector. We of course don't use them to inspect freight in our ports, or have much of any port security still. So they could easily slip one in. But I'm still not convinced that this event was anything more than a fizzle, if we got any radiation off it, then it was because they actually managed to start a minor chain reaction but didn't get the explosive geometry right or the correct purity or calculate their nuclear physics parameters correctly to cause it to actually go past critical mass. They might have made it slightly supercritical, but not enough to really get the bomb fired up. Probably need better detonators.

8. This info was released by Negroponte's office...
Any time I hear that name, my bullshit meter goes haywire, whether there's some truth to it or not.

9. Odd.. now ONLY the U.S. samples showed radioactivity.
If you find all of the articles from the past week, ONLY the U.S. said that their plane found radioactivity... odd, because Japan and China's samples right after did not find it. Only the AMERICAN plane... and well.. gosh.. Negroponte and Bolton, I SOOO believe them. don't you? :sarcasm:

I read wha the above poster said, that no radiation had detected. BTW, why didn't the US/UN use this detection method for Iraq?

20. Let's see: first it was yes, then no, then yes then no........
Now it's a 'confirmed yes? Can anyone say 'flip-flop'?

I, for one, don't believe anything I've heard from the * admin about this test.
