Negative ads plentiful in fight for control of Congress

In McCook, a businessman recently put a sign outside one of his liquor stores that highlighted his frustration with this year's U.S. Senate race: "Ben and Pete give us a break, please."

"I would have added exclamation points, but I don't have any of those for my marquee," Kent Kilpatrick said.

From dead giraffes to cats in hats, the bombardment of negative advertising in Nebraska this election year appears to reflect what is happening nationwide.

Across the nation, negative ads are the overwhelming choice of candidates in tough congressional races.
