Political consultant(GOP) sentenced for imprisoning students
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06284/729082-100.stm

A veteran GOP consultant was sentenced today to 5 to 10 years in prison for luring two male college students into his home on separate occasions, holding them captive in his spartan apartment and threatening them with Mafia retaliation if they contacted their friends or family.

A jury convicted Leon Abramovitz, of Shadyside, in July on charges of theft, coercion, false imprisonment, unauthorized practice of law, simple assault, indecent assault and making terroristic threats. His victims, 24-year-old and 22-year-old University of Pittsburgh students, were lured into his home with the promise of jobs tailored to their career goals.

He had pleaded guilty to coercing a teenage boy and a 27-year-old and holding them captive in 1999 and 2000.

The bespectacled defendant appeared before Common Pleas Judge Cheryl Allen in a wheelchair, his white beard making him look decades older than his 59 years. He told the judge he feared for his safety after inmates in his pod at Allegheny County Jail got their hands on a discovery folder from his trial and began calling him a "baby raper" and threatening to have inmates at the state prison "take care of him."

<snip>

The defendant served on the City Council's redistricting committee, for various Republican politicians and served in the Reagan Administration's office of constituent affairs, said his attorney Ira Houck.

22. Nichomachean Ethics - Books VIII and IX
here's a sample:

Perhaps these questions will become clear once we find out what it is that is lovable. For, it seems, not everything is loved, but only what is lovable, and this is either good or pleasant or useful. However, it seems that what is useful is the source of some good or some pleasure; hence what is good and what is pleasant are lovable AS ENDS (emphasis added).

combined with Chapter 4 and 5 of Politics:

A possession too, then, is an instrument for life, and one's possessions are the multitude of such instruments; and the slave is a possession of the animate sort. Every subordinate, moveover, is an instrument that wields many instruments...

Ruling and being ruled belong not only among things necessary but also amoung things advantageous. And immediately from birth, certain things diverge, some toward being ruled, others toward ruling...

Accordingly, those who are as different as the soul from the body or man from beast--and they are in this state if their work is the USE OF THE BODY, and if this is the best that can come from them--are slaves by nature (emphasis added)....

Nature indeed wishes to make the bodies of free persons and slaves different as well--those of the latter strong with a view to necessary needs, those of the former straight and useless for such tasks, but useful with a view to a POLICIAL WAY OF LIFE (emphasis added)...

Though as you correctly point out, most probably, I offer an oversimpliciation, but with this framework Pubies view themselves as Political creatures and all of beings as instruments or slaves with their direct subordinates as servants to their own ends. Thus, making pages servants to their pleasure--it is particular filthy ethos that they live by but would never own up to--b/c unlike Aristotle, they do not take accountability seriously.

My 2 sous.

"Aristotle, more than Socrates or Plato, defends the existing mores of his time. Although he argues for many values which many of today's philosophers agree with, the things he values include slavery, sexism and rule by a small leisure class, all of which seem unethical according to today's standards."

interesting. reminds me of some right wing fanatics that influence some friends I used to have. They seemed to thrive off the young men being in their "control". Again, what the hell happened to these people to make them think this kind of behavior is cool? sick sick sick sick sick!

It's only okay if the people are okay with it themselves (like sex games with a partner) this sounds like outright kidnapping and harrassment!

"Aristotle] shows no sign of having had any of those experiences which make it difficult to preserve sanity; all the more profound aspects of the moral life are apparently unknown to him. He leaves out, one may say, the whole sphere of human experience with which religion is concerned. What he has to say is what will be useful to comfortable men of weak passions; but he has nothing to say to those who are possessed by a god or a devil, or whom outward misfortune drives to despair."

and that too sounds like these fake republicans who court religious voters but don't ascribe to their beliefs in private.

7. shadyside is the gay equivalent to the village in new york, or folsom in
san francisco (actually, any district in san francisco), but you get the idea. it's a real gay area, with nice houses etc. the last time i was in pittsburgh was when anwar sadat was assasinated. quite a while back, so things could have changed over the years.
