A $576 million upgrade of the Bradley International Terminal - the largest single public works project in Los Angeles' history - was approved Tuesday as part of a $4 billion program to modernize LAX.
With the 12-0 vote of the City Council, Los Angeles World Airports will begin a 38-month project to renovate Bradley Terminal, which was built to accommodate visitors to the 1984 Olympic Games.

The work is scheduled to start next year and to continue while passengers continue to use what is already considered one of the most congested terminals... The new baggage handling system also is expected to speed passengers through the airport and U.S. Customs. The project is expected to involve 1,400 workers, 20 percent from the local workforce, Kennard said.
