AP: Trial Set for 2 Men Accused of Memo Leak (bomb al-Jazeera)
Trial Set for 2 Men Accused of Memo Leak

The Associated Press
Monday, October 9, 2006; 4:34 PM

LONDON -- Two men accused of leaking details of a memo that reportedly
included references to President Bush discussing bombing Arab broadcaster
Al-Jazeera will face trial in April, a judge said Monday.

White House officials have denied the report, calling the claims
"outlandish and inconceivable."

David Keogh, 49, a former Cabinet Office spokesman, and former parliamentary
researcher Leo O'Connor, 42, are accused of violating Britain's Official
Secrets Act.

Keogh has denied two charges of making a damaging disclosure of part of a
government document. O'Connor denies a charge of making a damaging
disclosure of a document passed to him illegally.

1. If the government is denying the memos
Then what case do they have against the people who supposedly leaked memos that don't exist?

If they were not planning to bomb Al-Jazeera then there is no case.
If they were planning to bomb Al-Jazeera then these guys deserve whistle-blower protections and the government still has no case.

3. I believe the US gov't is denying the accuracy of the memo
But the UK gov't is charging them for breaching their secrecy obligations (which don't depend on the accuracy of the secrets).

I think there have been several of these whistle-blower suits in the UK recently, and the whistle-blowers keep winning.

4. Our military has been openly targetting the media,
especially the non-US media. It's long past time that Bush grew a spine and admitted it.

6. I truly hope you are right.
In my fondest dreams the Republican party loses so much support that they stop being a viable party. The greens step up to be the 2nd party in our 2 party system. And with the Democrats now representing the concervatives and the Greens representing the liberals the whole nation swings to the left.

8. They should be decorated for disclosing Bush's insane war plans
Just as Hitler had a lot of help in achieving power, Bush has had his share of collaborating traitors that have helped him become the biggest mass murderer of the 21st century. Blair is a criminal!

9. journo's
The deliberate murder of scores of journalists is an outrage.

You'd think the MSM would be all over this, because it's their own people being murdered, but you'd be wrong.

the stats are harrowing, like more deaths per unit time than viet nam, larger numbers than all of viet nam and stuff like that.

kind of like the way Israel deliberately rocketed that un post in lebanon a couple of months ago. but they did apologize a few days later. they were told about it, it was clearly marked, etc.

journo's are now FAIR GAME out there. And other innocents aren't far behind!
