Former page says he had sex with Foley at 21
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0610080346oct08,1,6574252.story?coll=chi-newsnationworld-hed

A former House page says he had sex with then-Rep. Mark Foley after receiving explicit e-mails in which the congressman described assessing the sexual orientation and physical attributes of underage pages but waiting until later to make direct advances.

The former page, who agreed to discuss his relationship with Foley (R-Fla.) with the Los Angeles Times on condition that he not be identified, said his electronic correspondence with Foley began after he finished the respected Capitol Hill program for high school juniors. His sexual encounter in the fall of 2000 also came after he left the page program. At the time, he was 21 and a graduate of a rural Northeastern college.

"I always knew you were a player but I don't fool around with pages," declared one instant message from Maf54, a screen name used by Foley in exchanges that have now become public involving a number of male former pages.

The former page's account is consistent with Foley's assertion that he did not have sexual relations with minors, a question that will be key to determining whether he committed criminal acts. Although the legal age of consent varies from state to state, in the District of Columbia, where the pages live in supervised dormitories, it is 16.

1. The page being 21, I presume. I doubt foley is into zygotes...
Okay, so Foley got busy with a 21 year old. The folks who were under legal are are far more fascinating (to not just Foley, I refer to the legal system...)

Also, if the republicans wanted votes this year, how come they're defending the sleaze and not distancing themselves?

4. This highlights Foley's character, or lack thereof.
I realize it's not illegal, but who's to say he didn't 'have sex' with someone under the age of consent? I'm thinking it's just a matter of time before we find that out.

I haven't heard anyone defending Foley, the sleaze I figured you were referring to.

24. Eww! I hope that 21 didn't catch anything from Freaky Foley
I'm sick to my stomach. The 21 former page should get tested for diseases.

7. So soliciting minors for sex on the Internet is not a crime now?
Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 08:25 AM by LizW
That is, unless you actually have sexual contact with them? That should be a relief to a lot of predators.

9. 16 is above the age of consent in
most states. If you could arrest someone just for sexual messages, 80% of the kids in high school would be in jail.

Ex post facto.

You need to get him for recent IMs/e-mails if you want to use that law.

Is that it keeps Mark Foley's name up there for all to see!!! Foley is the gift that keeps on giving! The repukes want nothing more than for this story to die.

13. That is one patient stalker. He must think that keeping a number of them
on the line will ensure a future stock of partners when they're older.

Intent intent intent. He started stalking before they were adults. But they time they're over the age of consent they are so familiar with his they go for whatever it is he wants. They're convinced that he's really their 'friend'.

That's taking preying on kids to a whole new level.

21. I don't see any reason why he would limit himself to pages.....
They were riskier.........he probably was going to the nasty part of town and picking up underage male prostitutes, too.

22. all on the up and up (so to speak) eh?
Why did Foley quit so abruptly and go into hiding? If this story is true, I am glad that they didn't have sex before page turned legal. But this still does not excuse Foley's behavior, his predation on pages.

23. If he was twenty-one,
it's none of my business. His behavior with minors is what's troublesome. What two adults do in the privacy of the bedroom isn't my concern.

35. You're conclusion isn't valid.
It may be true, but you can't get there with this information.

He flirted with underage page, including this one; but we still need evidence that he actually had sex with them. Even the 'internet sex' IMs ... it's easy to write that you're masturbating, but what's written and what occurs in reality can be two different things. I like facts. I'm getting innuendo. Not a sound basis for deduction, just for abduction.

Above there was a post that this is proof he seduced a minor. But that means Foley seduced the guy when he was 17, but didn't actually complete the seduction for 4 years. Long time to keep a partner aroused, that. He attenuates the meaning of 'seduction' past where I can take it.

28. OK, since 16 is the age of consent
what was the big deal about Monica and Clinton?!? Yeah I know he was married but that was Hillary's business and not anyone elses. I'm anxious to see if the repukes will defend this one claiming it's OK since the guy was 21, Monica was older than that and yet they acted like she was a mere 'girl'!

as for Foley - they are both men in positions of power who used it for underlings. Cannot be tolerated. Foley is out and should be.

31. So he was 21 and gay. Foley is gay.
I don't see a problem with him having sex with whomever he wishes. It's the underage stuff that bothers me, but even then, I doubt 16 is below the age of consent (but might be in that state).

37. there is nothing wrong
With 2 consenting adults having sex. But what you have to remember, is that the conservative base is against homosexuality, so in their eyes it is very wrong, and that is why this is such a big deal.
