Foley and the pages: Who knew what when?

...
Allegations of improper remarks to House pages are detailed in the Times, a Washington Post story and elsewhere this morning, with one former page telling the Post of saying at a page reunion, "If this gets out, it will destroy him." An FBI probe is now underway. In USA TODAY's story, Foley is quoted as saying about legislation against online predators, "We're going to make your life a living hell."

House Speaker Dennis Hastert called Sunday for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to investigate the allegations, but as allegation-breaker ABC News reports, "the shock waves from the growing scandal are beginning to be felt in other House races across the country." Among others, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi alleges a cover-up. The Associated Press finds House leaders in "damage control mode," and the Los Angeles Times brings up Foley's "close ties with the party's campaign operation." A CQ Today story has a rundown of events and comments from House leaders over the weekend.

Hastert 'disgusted'; Rep. Foley enters rehab
FBI, Fla. probing congressman's explicit messages to underage male pages

Updated: 17 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - As former Rep. Mark Foley, under FBI investigation for e-mail exchanges with teenage congressional pages, has checked himself into rehabilitation facility for alcoholism treatment, House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., returned to Washington saying he was "outraged and disgusted" with Foley's actions involving sexually charged e-mails and instant messages to underaged, male, Capitol Hill pages.

Foley's attorney, David Roth, would not identify the facility, but told the Associated Press in West Palm Beach, Fla., that Foley had checked in over the weekend.

According to a statement from Hastert spokesman Ron Bonjean, Hastert is to meet with Page Board Chairman John Shimkus and current Clerk of the House Karen Haus to "review procedures" on the page system and to "discuss how to prevent this from happening in the future." According to an aide for Hastert, they will also discuss "how to protect people after they leave."......

4. Now Hastert is disgusted?
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 12:42 PM by LiberalFighter
Why wasn't he disgusted about this in 2005 when he was informed about it? He was informed wasn't he?

Palm Beach Post --Foley's secret confounds friends: Ex-congressman, said to be an emotional wreck, loses GOP support
"Despite the fact that I had not seen the e-mails in question, and Mr. Alexander told me that the parents didn't want the matter pursued, I told the speaker (Dennis Hastert) of the conversation Mr. Alexander had with me. Mr. Alexander has also said he took the matter to the clerk of the House. An investigation was then conducted by the clerk and John Shimkus on behalf of the House Page Board," Reynolds said in a prepared statement.

Hastert has said he did not know of the allegations.

6. He would be disgusted if Foley were a mere closeted gay man
...instead of a hypocrite and a total perverted creep. Foley is not a pedophile but a GOP pervert.
