Unions to protest Schwarzenegger at annual women's conference
Unions to protest Schwarzenegger at annual women's conference
By LAURA KURTZMAN, Associated Press Writer

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

(09-26) 00:23 PDT Long Beach, Calif. (AP) --

Maria Shriver on Tuesday will preside over her annual women's conference, a forum she hopes will be graced by the serenity of the Dalai Lama — her top draw speaker this year.

But if the union members who plan to protest outside have anything to do with it, it will not be an entirely peaceful affair.
(snip)

The women's conference, which Shriver has made her signature event as first lady, evokes bad memories for Schwarzenegger. It is the scene of his run-in two years ago with members of the California Nurses Association, when he famously remarked that he kicked the butts of special interests in Sacramento, after nurses disrupted his speech.

This year, the governor is basking in an election-year embrace of Democrats and has taken great strides to repair relations with the unions, including the nurses.

But the nurses and other unions have signaled that they will oppose his re-election anyway. And they are planning to use the conference to remind voters of the Schwarzenegger who last year went to war with the state's public employees in a special election that jeopardized his political career.
(snip/...)

1. If Californians and Democrats are taken in by Arni's bs
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 02:53 AM by cyclezealot
It only proves suckers are born everyday. They only way arni has any connection to the Dalai Lama, is his false, recollection of what a smoke filled room is like. Many of his ilk associate drugs with eastern philosophies. Democrats, you doubt Arni next year will not go back to his special interest roots. One does not turn on those paying his bills.

2. This Californian is not
taken in by Arnie or his bs. I never was. BUT I was VERY surprised to hear that some did...apparently none that I know of on DU--but some in the greater Los Angeles area. I don't get why. I guess maybe some did fall for his "celebrity status."

Again, I'm baffled by the whole thing. I've always thought the man was a boob.

3. and I thought Americans memories
would forget what happened five years ago. but, less than one year! What some call it "the end of history?"But, it is only 10 months since Arni was rejected last November. Americans need to start eating more carrots. A celebrity who surprises me by taking in arni's BS is Danny DeVito. Guess they are brothers in arms. Danny Devito speaks out on so many progressive issues.

4. and what about the LA mayor.
His coziness with Arni? Self serving because he wants to be the next governor?

5. I'm sorry but I don't see that.
I don't see the Mayor being "cozy" as you say with Arnie--but I suppose it's possible. If you'd like, you can share some examples that we should consider. :)

From what I've seen he (LA Mayor) seemed (justifiably) angry and disappointed by Arnold's last comments about latin women. Besides, being "cozy" with the present Governor isn't necessarily going to get someone elected is it?

LA's Mayor has to have a "working relationship" with Arnold because he's the go to guy for now. That doesn't mean they are buddies. The Mayor is merely a professional that will need things from the Gov. from time to time and as such, must maintain a relationship that allows him to attempt to meet the needs of his constituents.

6. Villagosia is in so many arni photo ops.
Does he not know he is being used. Looks pretty friendly to me. There are reports about the mayor's gubernatorial interests. Angelides would interfere if he were governor. It took the mayor how many months to endorse Angelides. Should have been automatic. He should have been on Angelides podium the night of the primary.

8. The suggestion is
he does not want Angelides to win in order to save the spot for himself? Arni will have to go back to the movies when he is term limited.
