1. I was hoping he would lose.
We would have stood a better chance of picking up a seat here.

5. Agreed
Yes, I want to see the Democrats pick up the Senate. But I also want to see the GOP return to sanity.

There is a difference between sound fiscal policy and either spending or cutting taxes just because it feels good. Republicans since and including Reagan think all they have to do to make Americans better off is cut taxes and never mind adjusting spending accordingly. There's a reason why the public associates Republicans with huge budget deficits and high interest rates, and it is rooted in their bonehead ideas about supply side economics.

16. I want GOP sanity, but later...
After we've spent a couple of years overriding Bush vetoes to undo the great damage that has been done to this country. Much of what BushCo has done has to be undone ASAP!!!

And, as usual, once the Democrats fix the country, they'll lose the Congress and the GOP will commence screwing it up again.

25. I don't want GOP sanity
I just want them to all go away. I want to associate the GOP with Ghengis Khan, and every other evil cause in world history. They've screwed things up so bad, I don't want them to ever even sniff power again, much less gain it!

6. No. But the better man won in this round
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 10:32 PM by Robbien
The evil Club for Growth took a body blow.

So the country wins and the Democratic party will have a harder row to hoe in this race. But win or lose for the Democratic party, the country will be better off with either the Democrat or Chafee.

11. Without the Club for Growth in the mix, perhaps the debate
will pull itself out of the current fithy muck and the Democratic party can shine on the real issues.

That is my hope.

10. We may be able to do it. More Dem's turned out for our primary
than did Re pubs, by over 20%. It may just come down to who is more enthusiastic about their candidate an looking at turn out in bother primaries, it may well be the Democrats.

Chafee wins as nine states vote

Wed Sep 13, 2006 01:09 AM ET

By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Moderate Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, a frequent foe of President George W. Bush's policies, beat a conservative primary challenger on Tuesday in a race crucial to Republican hopes of retaining Senate control in November's election.

Chafee's win over Cranston Mayor Stephen Laffey in heavily Democratic Rhode Island was a relief for national Republicans, who overlooked Chafee's independent streak and rallied to his defense in the belief he had the best chance to win in November.

Chafee, who now faces Democratic nominee Sheldon Whitehouse, told cheering supporters in Providence the state's voters "said yes to thoughtfulness, yes to honesty and yes to independence."

The Rhode Island race topped the busiest primary day of the year, with nine states and the District of Columbia deciding party nominees for November races for Senate, House of Representatives and governor's offices.

14. how can this be a relief for repubs.
It tells me that being a moderate republican voting against your party and the president is a right thing and the people in that state agreed with him and this conservatism bullshit is dead in the water.

15. It's a relief because Laffey was expected to loose in the general election
While Chaffee is expected to retain his seat. The GOP had already decided to abandon the seat to us if Laffey won - - they vowed not to spend a dime on him or help him get a single volunteer.

17. Chafee got BUCKETS of support from RNC...
They knew that RI would be lost for certain if Laffey won. This might keep another state in the (R) column.

19. I highly doubt it.
Regardless, a vote for Chafee is a vote for a Republican majority.

20. I think there are chances in other states and who knows
Until election day... hopefully the Pubbies stay home.... Democrat leadership needs to continue to hammer on failures of Brush immigration policies it pisses the pubs off something fierce. Terra Terra Terra but borders remain open.... Either there is no Terra or Brush is seriously incompetent.... I pick the later.

22. But there is good chance of getting Chafee's seat in RI
EVERYONE knows that. Whitehouse beats Chafee in most polls. The only people who should want Democrats to throw in the towel on RI are Republicans.

24. N.O. - He only votes "his conscience" when his vote don't count.
Every.
Fucking.
Time.

Don't take my word for it - check it out.

There was a good article about it some time back - had to do with the iron grip on the house and senate by the repuke leadership and how they operate.

When it comes time to stand up when it counts and vote for the party of the country, ALL repuke, every fucking single one of them, fold and vote for the REPUKES every single time.

He is NO friend of democrats.

Don't ever be fooled.
