French, Americans would back strike on Iran: poll
Most French and Americans would support military action against Iran as a last resort if other means fail to stop it acquiring nuclear weapons, a major transatlantic opinion survey showed on Wednesday.

But among Germans polled, more said they would accept Iran getting the atom bomb rather than using force if diplomacy or sanctions do not work.

On Iran, 96 percent of Americans and 85 percent of Europeans see the possibility of Tehran becoming a nuclear power as a very important or somewhat important threat.

In France, the figure was 54 percent. In Germany, 40 percent supported military action but 46 percent said it would be better to let Iran acquire nuclear arms.

Somehow, I can't see the "working class" of Franklin Lakes boycotting their Mercedes, BMWs, and Audis . . .

3. the important words here are "last resort"
Which means the poll, for determining the support of * and his gang of clowns attempt to drag the country into a wider conflict, is useless.

There are very few people who would not support military action as a last resort. How many support military action just because * wants to bomb Iran is a question they didn't ask.

Standard MSM push piece. All in line with new coke sorry new Iran push.

4. But with Bush, the last resort is the first resort
These phony polls are part of the propaganda buildup to war.

7. Or ask loaded questions that are hard to say "no" to
"Last resort" is a great example of that.

8. Umm, last resort is coming up on us really fast.
Unless Iran backs off there will be a war with Iran and it will be the last resort before allowing them to have weapons they should never be allowed to have.

It's pretty much go time now. Iran shows no signs of backing down so it looks like the odds are we will face the 'last resort" scenario quicker than most here are willing to accept.

13. What if the American population doesn't want another war?
Or the U.S. Congress for that matter. The people who are keen on the "last resort" solution may have to accept that - if the U.S. is still a democracy.

22. Well I don't know? We will probably have a war anyway.
I don't think the government Rep or Dem gives a shit about what we think. They tell us what to think and most of us think it. I protested the Iraq war along with millions of others, no one in the government gave a shit, dem or rep. I don't see that changing in terms of Iran. I certainly think all of the potential Dem noms would most likely act to prevent Iran from gaining nukes.

Am I wrong?

25. I am cynical enough to agree with a lot of that
I mean about politicians ignoring the will of the people. I would just note that eventually there will be a powerful backlash by the people, although it may take a huge disaster before it comes.

15. Just curious, why should Iran never be allowed to have nukes?
Their neighbors have nukes, Israel and Pakistan.

Has Iran threatened to bomb us with their hypothetical nukes?

Who is threatening to bomb whom?

And what's with all this pseudo-militaristic war-mongering talk, anyway? I expect it from Washington, not from this board.

21. Because they would use them.
And it would not be to defend themselves. They would use them to blackmail the world. I don't want to give them the chance.

Iran has threatened a lot of things, especially lately. You read enough DU to have noticed. I have.

9. *as a LAST RESORT* was not emphasized ... Propaganda!
Remember our Dear Leader uses Military Action as a FIRST vice LAST resort.

We are in a world of shit and this is part of the 20 million dollar propaganda campaign to lead us through the Gates of Hell, i.e., bomb Iran. :grr: :nuke: :grr:

20. Also in this poll:
"15 percent of Americans and 6 percent of Europeans see military action as the best way."

So the Bush agenda has the support of 15%.

That headline is quite a stretch.
