Former POW Jessica Lynch expecting baby
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Jessica Lynch, the former prisoner of war whose 2003 rescue in Iraq made her an instant celebrity, is pregnant.

She and boyfriend Wes Robinson are expecting their first child in January, publicist Aly Goodwin Gregg said Thursday.

"I was not sure if this could ever happen for me," Lynch, 23, said in a statement. "Learning to walk again and coping with the internal injuries that I still deal with pale in comparison to the tremendous joy of carrying this child."

The former Army supply clerk suffered spinal fractures, nerve damage, and a shattered arm, foot and leg when her Humvee crashed during a fire fight in March 2003 in Nasiriyah, Iraq.

36. I personally think if you are going to have a child.....
maybe it is better to get married. (I'm old-fashioned this way, I guess)

It just seems like it'll bring the child better security. Yes, I know that 1 out of 2 or 3 marriages don't work, but maybe people would work at marriage more if they had another life to consider.

Just my say, but to each their own. :)

3. Good for her! She is a brave woman, which she demonstrated
by not allowing herself to be used for propaganda by the Bush Crime Family, which took a great deal of courage.

4. Now this will throw the freepers for a loop
She fought in Iraq and we all know they love war. But now she's having a baby and she's not married, which they consider to be a mortal sin. This must post a real dilemna for them.

11. Here's one sample
To: Thunderchief F-105

Not long ago, another FReeper told me I was being judgemental and hateful when referring to an illegitimate child as a bastard.

My argument - that any dictionary defines "bastard" as a child whose parents were not married at the time of its birth - was given no weight, and I was told that "it's mean to label the baby because he didn't do anything."

Well, you know what? Shame is a powerful motivating force, and if more women were greeted with humiliation, perhaps they'd want to shelter their babies from it, and they wouldn't HAVE the babies until they were married and no shame accrued.

12. It's actually kind of an interesting thread.
As one post early on predicted, the posts go two ways.

To: pnz1
I was hoping and praying for the safe return of Lynch, but I was also praying for her friend, Shoshanna Johnson, who was also a prisoner in Iraq for a while.

Lynch's case got a lot more publicity, though Johnson's situation was no less tense. The difference in attention given by the media, and the American public, I hate to say it, was race.

Lynch was the pretty white blond girl, and Shoshanna was an African American. I am not one to cry racist foul quickly or without thought, but it;s clear to me at the very least a pervasive & tacit bigotry made Lynch a star, and Shoshanna an afterthought.

It sucks.

They think they can judge anyone. You know their always talking about how babies are precious, yet they have no problem calling them dergatory names.

14. People here are pretty much like everyone everwhere else.

Morgantown, Charleston and Huntington are like any big cities. Some places in the country are really conservative, but mostly it's like most other places.

22. Exactly.
I was born and raised here in Morgantown, but I've spent time in other parts of the state as well. The bigger cities are no different than any other average American city. The rural areas are the same as other American rural areas.

We all have our townies and kooks. We West Virginians just get some of the most beautiful scenery around as part of the bargain. ;)

23. A POW
is any American soldier who is captured and held against their will by enemy forces. Just because the enemy fighters who capture you are kind enough to treat you humanely, does not make you any less of a POW.

And yes, I wish all POWs were treated humanely as well. Then again, if the supposedly benevolent nation of America has leaders who condone torture, I don't suppose there's much hope for that. :/

I know the freepers like to say she was rescued, but the real story as I hear it is that they walked in and asked for her and she was handed over.

Crazy.

Then, the US Government made up the rape story -- just for lies, not caring if it shamed and hurt Ms. Lynch.

She and her family are heroes in my book.
