Feingold rips 'pile of lies' on Iraq

U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold told a group of Madison area residents this morning that the ongoing U.S. presence in Iraq is the result of an "outrageous pile of lies" and called for more accountability.

"The Bush administration should take accountability for being stuck there and not admitting mistakes," he told a group of about 60 people this morning at a listening session at the Boys & Girls Club on Jenewein Road.

A group of about 10 anti-war activists in the crowd praised Feingold for his opposition to the war and asked him to gather more support in Congress for an immediate withdrawal. The senator has made waves recently by being one of the few members of Congress to call on the Bush administration to create a firm timetable for withdrawal.

1. I think I'd vote for the guy if he ran.
We're sure not going to win by being lame and tame and indistinguishable from what's already there.

11. I think it's too early to get too excited about '08
We have this year to worry about. I like what I see of Feingold, but it will be a crowded field to start and I really doubt that Gore will run in any case for any office.

8. At the WI Dem Convention in June he said something to the effect that
"I'm not calling for impeachment, but what Bush did is definitely in the strike zone for high crimes & misdemeanors.

10. I am glad he used the word "lie". It would be very helpful if
Feingold also decried the LIES that were used to justify the invasion of Iraq.

It is a fact that the Bush mal-administration knowingly cited falsehoods as reasons to invade Iraq.

It wasn't because they had shabby intelligence these were things they KNEW were false, that is called a lie, not "mislead" not "bad intelligence" not "mistaken" their reasons were LIES!

Lieing this nation into war is TREASON. I just wish our representatives would SAY IT!

I like Feingold a great deal and he is definitely on the short list for my vote but he is talking about a "pile of lies" as to why we stay in Iraq, not why we went in the first place. Its an important distinction.

20. Yes and I think that's pathetic. We can't even stand up to treason.
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 02:15 AM by Alexodin
I like Sen Feingold alot, he tried to censure the murder monkey and one of my Senator's, Harkin supported him in that effort. I have heaped praise on Sen Harkin for doing so and yet more scorn on Sen Grassely for not doing so. Still, all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to remain silent.

I cannot support any politician that will not call the rationale for the IWR treason. This is a line I draw.

Sen. Feingold is great and I support him and his rock like spine, he gives me hope. Any politician that will not decry treason is an enemy of this country just as surely as a person that would not alert on a fire is, at the very least, guilty of criminal negligence.

Sen. Feingold is outstanding in that he at least is trying. But I want a sledge hammer and I want Sen. Feingold to know, it's not enough, HIT THEM HARDER!

14. The Madison group was asking him to sign the Declaration of Peace
which we all can sign, and which is being presented to every member of Congress (we hope). Feingold does not sign pledges but he supports the ideas behind it.

18. recall thaat he has a plan for a pilot universal health care:
Feingold trumpeted his state-based health care reform act, which would authorize pilot programs for universal health care coverage in individual states.

"In my 14 years of holding listening sessions across the state, Wisconsinites have mentioned health care more than any other issue. With an American-style approach to reform that gives flexibility to the states and fuels innovation, real health care reform is within reach," he said. "This bill moves toward that goal."

One boy in the audience told Feingold he is concerned about high gas prices and the senator responded: "We have to figure out a way not to use oil. Wisconsin has the best farmland in the world."

Feingold added that Wisconsin has the potential to make alternatives, ethanol and biodiesel fuel, with resources available in the state.

19. My current bumper sticker: Feingold/Murtha 2008
Hey! A girl can dream, can't she?

I'm also carrying a sticker with the # of US Dead, # of US Wounded, # of Iraqi Dead
(which I update weekly)
Under that row of #'s reads: Mission Accomplished? Got WMD? Oil? Peace?

Yeah, I know... I'm quite the dreamer.

soooooo....

FEINGOLD 2008!!!!
