Kerry Calls Lieberman the New Cheney
Kerry Calls Lieberman the New Cheney
Senator Labels Bush Iraq Policy 'Disaster,' Lieberman Bid 'Huge Mistake'
By ED O'KEEFE

Aug. 20, 2006 — Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., blasted fellow a Democrat, Sen. Joe Lieberman, for continuing his bid in the Connecticut Senate race despite a narrow loss to newcomer Ned Lamont in the Democratic primary earlier this month.

"I'm concerned that is making a Republican case," Kerry told ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" in an exclusive appearance.

Kerry accused the 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate of "adopting the rhetoric of Dick Cheney," on the issue of Iraq.

"Joe Lieberman is out of step with the people of Connecticut," Kerry added, insisting Lieberman's stance on Iraq, "shows you just why he got in trouble with the Democrats there."

Yep- that's exactly what he and others like him do.

I can think of about five or six so called "Democrats" who consistently make the Republicans' case-

I suppose it might be labeled "bipartisanship."

15. What was Al Gore thinking when he ran with Lieberman?
It just keeps coming back to me. I keep asking the same question. How different is Joe now than six years ago? And does it say anything about who Al Gore is?

Don't get me wrong. I used to think Gore was way too far to the right for me. But in his appearances in the last few years, Al has blown me away with his brilliant and thoughtful speeches. I love the guy.

Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 02:10 PM by TheBorealAvenger
I got most of my news then from public radio. They did not overplay the sex scandal as did the TV networks and 24 hour cable networks. All these details of "some Democrat" criticizing President Clinton for not controlling his libido when right past me and did not record.

When Gore picked Lieberman, my impression, was why in the hell did he do that? Gore should have picked a candidate from a large swing state like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida or West Virginia.

edit:opossum

54. Gore screwed up and still won
Named Liberhole for VP, ran away from 8 years of peace and prosperity and still won.

These republican light consultants need to stick it where the sun don't shine. All they know how to do is lose winnable elections by alienating portions of their base.

OTOH, the fight is always uphill when the corporate weasel media is gunning for the democratic candidate and sucking the ass of the repug.

17. Kerry Is Grossly Exaggerating
If anything, Lieberman resembles the late George Wallace, in one of his phases.

But on the other hand, exaggeration is the GOP's first line of defense, after totally made up lies.

Whatever.

40. Cheney Has No Redeeming Qualities
Cheney isn't just an enabler and a politician on the take--he is an engine of evil. He doesn't endear himself, the way Lieberman and Wallace could. He never wavers off the path of evil, the way Wallace and Lieberman could. Democrats must learn to adhere to party discipline, and close their hearts to their old buddy Joe if they want to have any Democratic Party at all. Nobody needs to work hard to close their hearts to Cheney. It's a matter of degree. If I had a choice==remove Lieberman or Cheney, it would be Cheney, hands down.

47. Kerry DID NOT SAY that Lieberman was the new cheney
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 11:32 PM by karynnj
the reporter did. Kerry as the quote says, said Lieberman is using rhetoric like Cheney's - and that is precisely what Lieberman has done since he lost. Lieberman has been saying that Lamont doesn't understand terrorism and has implied that his position on Iraq - which in the Senate seems to boil down to backing Kerry/Feingold helps the terrorist.

Kerry is responding to support Lamont from an obnoxious attack and to defend his own position.

19. Lieberman Would Even Lose Out Of Tel Aviv, Like Olmert
In Los Angeles Times Frontal Midsection 8/20, p. A14, "Olmert Beset by a Mission Not Accomplished," as likely on the Los Angeles Times could put it.

"Jerusalem--Israel's costly and inconclusive war in Lebanon has triggered a round of internal recriminations so bitter that some observers question whether Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's government can survive."

Anyone would say that the parallels with the "Invasion of Iraq to demonstrate the failure of Republican Conservative policy," easily said a joint resolution of the United States Senate and House assembled: Are obvious.

Anyone might even suggest that "When in famous New Haven, Do as famous Tel Aviv seems to be doing," After of course explaining to famous New Haven just where it is that famous Tel Aviv is located.

25. Yay! It's time to start calling out republicans, and their moles in the
Democratic Party.

Republicans are destroying America, and the republican moles in our party want to destroy the Democratic Party in order to make it easier for the republican party to establish a one party state, and hence make it easier for them to destroy our Constitution and our nation.

For far too long, many Dems, and so called "moderate republicans" (I personally don't believe that there is such a thing as moderate republicans - they all vote like vicious extreme RW radicals nowadays) have been bending over to appease the fascist republican RW extremists.

It gives me hope when I hear our Dems standing up to the fascists, and speaking the straight up unbridled truth, like Senator Kerry did as posted in the OP.

Because, if we Dems do not all stand up and resist the fascists, the fascists will quickly take away our freedoms, rights, and liberty. Like Ben Franklin said:

"We must hang together, or most assuredly we will surely hang seperately."

37. Kerry is always spot on in calling their dirty work
what it is...

Not even two weeks out from losing, Joe is probably experiencing his highest point in the polls he's going to have between now and November. Republicans won't vote for a democrat and dems won't vote for him. Independents won't trust him as he is a rubber stamp for B**sh.

Always love to watch Kerry do interviews and speak to the issues. He has a keen intelligence AND a sense of humor. Would have been amazing to have him as president.
