G.O.P. Deserts One of Its Own for Lieberman
Facing Senator Joseph I. Lieberman’s independent candidacy, Republican officials at the state and national level have made the extraordinary decision to abandon their official candidate, and some are actively working to help Mr. Lieberman win in November.

Despite Mr. Lieberman’s position that he will continue to caucus with Democrats if re-elected, all three Republican Congressional candidates in Connecticut have praised Mr. Lieberman and have not endorsed the party’s nominee, Alan Schlesinger. An independent group with Republican ties is raising money for Mr. Lieberman, who has been a strong supporter of President Bush on the Iraq war.

1. Everybody Loves Lieberman==New Hit Comedy on CNN Fall Season
The Democratic Senators love him, the GOP loves him, Bush gives Joe PDAs. Why is it that Connecticut's voters don't fall in line? Why is it that cheers crossed the nation at his defeat in the primary?

Tune in every Friday night for another episode of Everybody Loves Lieberman!

2. If this doesn't prove that Lieberman is one of them ...
then I don't know what does!

If Lieberman is getting such massive GOP support, I think the Dems need to get him off the committees and out of the party ... NOW!

3. It's not just that he getting their support....he is actively going out
and campaigning to them....the citizens of CT should be outraged....if they did vote for him it should be obvious that he is not a Dem......

Anyone from CT on.....? What is the response to his childish behaviour?

12. What evidence do you have of that?
Please provide a link to any article that shows that Lieberman has actively sought endorsements from any of these Republican officials?

I look forward to similar criticism from you and the DU crowd when the Lamont campaign begins trumpeting "Republicans for Lamont."

5. No. What it does prove is that Rove is desperate.
He is trying to show Democrats as extreme and divided.

It's his only chance to keep us from taking back Congress this Fall.

Lieberman is only Rove's pawn.

6. Lieberman is a wedge.
The way the progressive side of the party rose up and kicked him out in the primary scared the GOP quite badly. I think they saw the potential of a tidal wave of liberalism undoing everything they think they've done.

The GOP is hoping that their support of Lieberman will result in a split in the democratic party and a victory for Lieberman that would be seen by the public as a defeat of the progressives and bloggers. Crushing the rebellion in its early stages, you might say. And because they don't ever give their favors away without expecting something in return, I suspect that there are other strings attached that we won't be allowed to see unless Lieberman wins and announces that he has decided to become a republican. All things considered, I think that is a very real possibility.

14. Let's be honest here ...
The Republican candidate is an embarrassment. And so the RNC is supporting, at little cost to them, the one of two Democratic candidates who from their perspective is the lesser of two evils. (Other than on the war issue there is no agreement between JL and the RNC.) And it appears that JL might win. The DNC would (rightly so) do the same thing to the Republicans if the tables were turned -- trying to make the best of a bad situation. Politics is not a sport for the timid. It's just the way it is.

4. This needs to be drummed into Republicans heads. THEIR party is
supporting a pro-choice, pro-gay marriage Independent candidate over their very own Neanderthal. WTF? Too funny...bye bye GOP Joe!

8. STUPID fools
Lieberman is still a registered Democrat if he manages to hold his seat Democrats still have a Senate seat that hopefully helps them claim the majority. It doesn't say much for the reTHUGs that their own candidate is such a sleaze they have to help a Democratic reject get into office.

10. Perhaps he and Hillary can help reclaim the republican party
Take it away from the wingnuts anyway. Perhaps they can help move the country a little further towards sanity by going a little nuts themselves.
