Calif. candidate pulls Mel Gibson letter
Calif. candidate pulls Mel Gibson letter

By JULIET WILLIAMS, Associated Press Writer
11 minutes ago

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Republican candidate for lieutenant governor said he no longer will use a fundraising letter sent on his behalf by Mel Gibson, who admitted to an anti-Semitic tirade after he was pulled over for speeding.

Tom McClintock decided to pull the letter after the incident, his campaign spokesman said Tuesday.

"Tom saw the news and the situation as it was unfolding with Mel Gibson and made a conscious decision to direct people not to use the letter any further. He was disillusioned by the situation with Mr. Gibson," spokesman Stan Devereaux said.

Gibson was pulled over for speeding in Malibu on July 28. He has since been charged with misdemeanor drunken driving and having an open container of alcohol in his car. He also has apologized for his comments about Jews.

Devereaux said the campaign sent Gibson's letter to would-be donors four times, twice this year and twice last year.

In most states, he would see jail time.

5. I love this...
He also has apologized for his comments about Jews....

Apologized for his comments, perhaps. And people seem to be fine with the fact that he did apologize. But does that change his feelings on the subject?

6. You may recall that when reporters tried to ask George Bush about his coke
habit and his alcoholism, and other problems, he geve them the old "God forgave me" routine, and that was his way of blowing them off in such a manner they didn't ever screw up the courage to ask him about it again, as if his tender feelings trump the American citizens' right to know what kind of man a Republican candidate is every time.

Maybe Mel will suddenly announce he has repented and gawd has forgiven him, end of story. It really worked for Bush.

Just to kick the door shut on the subject, he needs to get some of these made:

7. Remember David Duke?
Duke was "no longer interested" in being a racist creep for about the length of time he thought saying so would fool people into voting for him. Then he snapped right back into his "wyte p0war!!" nonsense, and then--as far as I know--oblivion.

Every time someone gets caught, they're "sorry." Almost* every time, they're just sorry they got caught.

*I will allow for the occasional genuinely-contrite person, but I don't think Mel is one of 'em.

8. Hilarious...
That would be reason enough for Gibson to pull a stunt like this to embarrass
the Republican zschmuck!

I Love the rolling, laughing, guy--don't you?
