CAMPAIGNERS carrying placards resembling gravestones took a 35,000-signature petition to Prime Minister Tony Blair's office, demanding an immediate ceasefire to allow emergency aid to reach Lebanese civilians.
They submitted the petition to Downing Street as Mr Blair, who has stood by US President George W. Bush in resisting calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and the Hezbollah militia, visited the US state of California.
Aid agencies, former member of parliament and war correspondent Martin Bell and a Muslim community leader handed over the petition as they expressed alarm over the hundreds of civilians killed in Lebanon, particularly children.
They carried gravestone-shaped placards from Parliament Square to Downing Street bearing the message: "Ceasefire Now".
