Florida: Disappearing lake beginning to reappear!
Lakeland, Florida - At first glance, it doesn't look like much has changed on Scott Lake. But talk with the folks who live along the 291-acre Polk County lake, and they will tell you they notice a difference. The lake's water level is slowly coming back, even if it is just a few inches.

While no one knows for sure, it seems the four sinkholes that emptied the lake have plugged themselves. Add some recent rainy weather and the lake's condition is starting to improve.

However, Dave Curry, the president of the Scott Lake Association says a study will still need to be completed to determine the overall health of the lake and what steps need to be taken to try and prevent more sinkholes in the future. He says all totaled, the bill could approach $1 million.

Dave Curry, Association President:
"We estimate it could cost that much and then we'll have to figure out how we're going to pay for it."

1. Who gives a damn ...it's a private lake for the rich bastards
They won't let the public on that lake so let them worry about it ...bunch of rich bastards can (in the words of our great vice president) go f*ck themselves.

3. The reason people should give a damn is that
this huge lake has had its water disappear on them previously and they arranged to pipe in fresh drinking water from public reserves. Yes they paid for the water, but they removed water from a public system that is already stressed to the max.

Here's hoping they do not come up with the funding to re-fill this sinkhole of a so called lake. The drought is bad enough. We don't need this waste of public resources.

4. I'm not doubting you, but do you have a source?

I know that in the seventies water was piped in, but at that time water was not an issue(or so we thought). I know it is now.

Thanks.

7. Thanks, as noted in my response # 2
I'll be in Lakeland this week-end and I know Dave Curry. I'll try to talk with him about this, know though, he IS a Repuke. And I can only tolerate Lakeland for about 48 hours and Ill be driving to Orlando on Saturday for a DU meet-up - anything to get out of Lakeland for a few hours. I freakin' hate that town. Conservative, relgious, old money. Hate it. Spent nine years in that heinous place.

2. Cool. I'll be in Lakeland this week-end
For my Mom's B-Day. I spent my teenage years on that lake. And no, we weren't rich. And just for shits and giggles, I know Dave Curry, he's a good Christian man - and I'm an atheist. He was going to "give me away" at my wedding if my dad couldn't make it to the event. Yeah, my dad made it - and "gave me away". Then I divorced the man I married four years later, on our anniversary.

I told my hubby I was an atheist who didn't want kids, didn't cook! :D
