Howard Dean compares Katherine Harris to Stalin during stop in WPB
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-0726howarddean,0,4923632.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines

West Palm Beach -- Democrat leader Howard Dean called the Iraqi prime minister an "anti-Semite" during an address before party loyalists on Wednesday, drawing a swift rebuke from Republicans. The Democratic National Committee chairman also called Republican Senate candidate Katherine Harris a "crook" and compared her to Stalin.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who addressed a joint session of Congress Wednesday, came under fire from Democrats for recent comments on the conflict in Lebanon between Israel and the terrorist group Hezbollah. Al-Maliki hasn't condemned Hezbollah, but he criticized the "Israeli aggression."

"The president made a big deal about bringing the Iraqi prime minister to address Congress," said Dean, the former Vermont governor and 2004 presidential candidate. "The Iraqi prime minister is an anti-Semite. We don't need to spend $200, $300, $500 billion bringing democracy to Iraq to turn it over to people who believe Israel doesn't have a right to defend itself."

Dean spoke for before the Democratic Professionals Forum Wednesday in West Palm Beach.

Republican National Committee spokesman Danny Diaz responded: "It is incredibly troubling that Howard Dean would defend the presumption of innocence of a terrorist like Osama bin Laden, yet attack the democratically-elected prime minister of Iraq." He was referring to a comment Dean made in 2003.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt . . the typo, "Dean spoke for before" is sending bells off in my head.

1. That's a Bit Over the Top, Even for Howard Dean
It's getting so I don't believe most of what I read: half from incredulity, half from suspicion of conspiracy. This is no way to run a democracy.

25. Bad indeed -- he should've said Stalin with too much makeup!
Remember what Stalin said about he who controls the ballot boxes.

THAT was the point -- WHICH, NATURALLY, WAS NOT REPORTED BY THE sclm.

3. At least

he's being creative. I mean no ones going to pay any attention to another Hitler comparison, but STALIN? Stalin, well that's another story.

I agree with you about taking it with a grain of salt. If it is true though, meh, I'll just say I wish our politicians could be a bit more productive. You know actually give some constructive arguments without resorting to comparing people to history's most famous dictators...

"Thank God for Bill Nelson, because we'd have another crook in the United States Senate if it weren't for him. He is going to beat the pants off Katherine Harris," Dean said during his 20-minute address. "She doesn't understand that it's…improper to be chairman of a campaign and count the votes at the same time. This is not Russia and she is not Stalin."

Notice the ellipses...which means that the reporter left stuff out.

Only God knows what he really said.

Again, I'm taking this "report" with a grain of salt. It's anti-Democratic Party in nature and the the reporter contacted Repukes for comment.

Different than "comparing her the stalin". Dean was more creative than that. It needed to be brought out about the ol' harridan and 2000's coup!

I am like you, I don't trust the reporter with that headline. Dean actually said she was not like Stalin and this was not Russia. The reporter twisted it.

15. Dean Calls Iraqi PM an 'Anti-Semite'
Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean on Wednesday called Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki an "anti-Semite" for failing to denounce Hezbollah for its attacks against Israel.

Al-Maliki has condemned Israel's offensive, prompting several Democrats to boycott his address to a joint meeting of Congress and others to criticize him. Dean's comments were the strongest to date.

"The Iraqi prime minister is an anti-Semite," the Democratic leader told a gathering of business leaders in Florida. "We don't need to spend $200 and $300 and $500 billion bringing democracy to Iraq to turn it over to people who believe that Israel doesn't have a right to defend itself and who refuse to condemn Hezbollah."

17. Eh?
The problem with that is that Israel is acting just like Bush did after 9/11, using disproportionate force to attack largely the wrong people as a tool of political change.

23. the third rail of US politics
ahh, remember when Dr. Dean was totally lambasted for suggesting the US should treat the Palestinians fairly? I believe he said 'even-handed' to be precise...our Israeli overlords went ballistic, and Howard learned his lesson; now he is, like all our congress critters, very obedient and cow-tows accordingly.

Israel can do no wrong, do dah , do dah

Hezbollah just must be bombed, all the do dah day

Gonna bomb all night, gonna bomb all day

gonna bomb until they're gone, until election day

(Nov.mid term elections) that is.
