Lights In Queens Go On, Lights In Staten Island Fail

QUEENS, N.Y. -- The lights went back on Wednesday for the last victims of the 10-day Queens power outage, making it easier for angry local business owners to see the damage inflicted by the blackout.

"I'm probably going to go broke," said Charles Marino, whose family-owned fish market opened in the Astoria section in 1932.

"I've lost more than $100,000 of equipment and product. I've been out here my whole life, and this should be declared a disaster area."

...

While Queens residents flipped their air conditioners back on, some 16,000 residents on Staten Island found themselves without power on Wednesday afternoon. Con Ed spokesman Alfonso Quiroz said the cause of the outage was unknown on another steamy afternoon

2. We are still recovering here in St. Louis
from the storms last week and Ameren UE's magical management. Still some 75K without power, which is down from the 500K last week. They are now running radio spots telling those that can listen that the storms were just unprecedented! We of course don't have summer storms each year in Missouri, that is just a figment of someone's imagination. So their reducing the tree trimming budget over the last few years of course had no effect on the number of tree limbs that took out power lines. Of course they hope to be caught up on tree trimming by 2008. Just hang in there folks, we are gettin' a round tuit.

3. Reminds me of an old joke my dad used to tell
Why are the lights in uptown Manhattan brighter than the lights downtown?

The lights downtown are closer to the Battery.
