Israeli ground troops enter Lebanon
JERUSALEM - Israel declared Tuesday it was ready to fight Hezbollah guerrillas for several more weeks, raising doubts about international efforts to broker an immediate cease-fire in the fighting that has killed more than 260 people and displaced 500,000. The military said early Wednesday it sent some troops into southern Lebanon searching for tunnels and weapons.

<snip>

At daybreak Wednesday, a small number of Israeli troops were operating just across the border inside southern Lebanon, looking for tunnels and weapons, the Israeli military said. The military did not provide any more details and gave no indication that action would be expanded into a larger operation.

1.  Israel has neither the bravery nor the stomach to fight Hizballah...
on the ground. Israel will never fight gorilla war with Hizballah, they know they will loose again.

10. Spelling aside, the poster has a point. Israel LOST last time.
And something tells me the indiscriminate bombing of a country that DIDN'T attack them (sound familiar?) and deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians isn't winning Israel any friends.

I support Btselem and such Israeli peace groups. This is madness!

5. They already did for 20 years
So they outlasted the US in Vietnam, the French in Algeria, and so far the Russians in Chechnya. The Israelis have the determination to do whatever they think is necessary to survive.

6. The Vietnamese got their country back. The Algerians
got their country back. The Chechnyans and Palestinians have not yet done so. It appears that people fight hard for their own land. But since the Israelis feel they have a more ancient claim, they fight hard also. This really does call for some disinterested arbitration.
