US to move troops from South Korea to Iraq, Afghanistan: report
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20031125/wl_afp/us_iraq_skorea_military&cid=1512&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States plans to relocate troops from South Korea to duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of a wide reorganization of its 37,000 strong garrison in the country, a report quoting military officials said.

Washington has been in talks with South Korea on a reconfiguration of its forces for months, designed to free up troops for duty elsewhere, and also to ease their impact on the local populace.

In a report from Honolulu, the Washington Times quoted unnamed military officials as saying that soldiers currently stationed in South Korea could soon find themselves in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The paper said Washington was also planning to move most of the 7,000 people in its headquarters in Seoul out of the capital within a year.

3. They are Gonna NUKE N.Korea
The scenario has been played and the plan is in motion. While pulling back US troops so S.Korea can be finally independant we are demonizing and provoking N.Korea.

They have already moved bombers into range. Did it a few months ago. All N.Korea has to do now is twitch and they go kaboom.

I think Biff is waiting for the holidays to go full swing and then POW! Kind of a Christmas gift for his buddies at Carlyle.

Peace,
Teresa

4. Hello?
are you reading my mind?
That is EXACTLY what I thought the minute I read the headline.
AND if you figure in the documnet he signed this morning
which now allows him to drop tactical nukes...
well fuckity-fuck, it's gonna get ugly.
Welcome to DU!

5. Shipping Out
FYI: They are shipping out troops from TX to undisclosed location in southeast Asia this week. Do you think they are bolstering the Phillipines et al in case China freaks out when we drop the bomb?

Thanks, I have been so warmly welcomed by all. Nice bunch for a group of upset, overwhelmed, intellectuals.....

Peace,
Teresa

10. The Truth Hurts
Got that piece of news in one of those glorious patriotic "we're shipping out" briefs in the lo-cal rag today.

Seemed rather odd that they are not going to Iraq.....

14. If we do, we will be condemned by the world, AND South Korea

Such a criminal act would make our government, in my mind, deserved to be overthrown by any means.

8. Only until they get a draft started up.
Right after the reSelection. Until then they can juggle what they have, work them 22 hours a day if necessary.

12. What has happened to America?
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 01:16 AM by BeHereNow
I no longer recognize her- we are actually talking
seriously about a DRAFT!
I have no doubt that it will come to pass.
It is so sad to see how far below the water level
in the sea of humanity we have gone.
It makes me so sad when I talk to friends who live in
other countries and they ask, "What the hell is going on
over there? What happened to the country everyone loved..."
God I cringe for the children of the future.
What are we creating to leave them?
A no wage job market.
No healthcare.
No education.
No social security.
No Pension.
Nada-
Just this never-ending war on what?
Osama is long been forgotten.
Hussein is the (yellow) cake left in the rain.
It is all getting so surreal.
It is so sad.

13. But We Have Eachother...
so there is hope. In times of great strife quite often common ground becomes more beloved. Look at the NRA and moveon on the FCC issue. There is a mass coming together becasue we are facing a common enemy. We might not agree on who the enemy is, but we can all agree our country is not doing well. I find eternal hope in places I never imagined, but you have to look for it to see it happening. A tiny bit of hope can conquer the darkest night.

Don't let the sad eat you up.
We would miss you.

Peace,
Teresa
