Very sad, the flag was created as a message for hope and peace and is now going to represent "patriotism" in the "War on terror"
http://www.wqad.com/Global/story.asp?S=1538096MOLINE, IL- A student-made American flag that traveled throughout the United States last year will head overseas this year.
A suggestion from a WQAD-TV-DT NewsChannel 8 viewer in Princeton, Illinois was selected by the students. Nancy Anderson suggested the flag be sent to her son, KC-10 flight engineer Charles Schmied, who is serving in the Middle East.
The "Hands on America" flag was made by students at Bettendorf's Rivermont Collegiate school as a message of hope and peace after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Last year, students sent the flag to former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani who sent it on to a fire station that lost firefighters on 9/11. From there it travelled to Pennsylvania, North Carolina, California, and Texas before returning to Bettendorf in September of this year.
