Gonzales tells White House tales
By Anna M. Tinsley
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

STAR-TELEGRAM/ALISON WOODWORTH
Top White House lawyer Alberto Gonzales talks to Hispanic chamber of commerce officials Saturday in Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH - Alberto Gonzales clearly remembers March 19.

He was in the room when President Bush received brief-ings and discussed the situation in Iraq with chief advisers.

Bush asked whether everything was ready and gave an order to start the war on Iraq.

Then he solemnly said, "And may God bless the troops."

The room fell silent.

"I realized I had just witnessed history," said Gonzales, Bush's chief legal counsel. "That meeting is just one of many moments I've experienced in the White House in the past 30 months." (snip)

(snip) "My job is to protect the powers of the presidency," he said. (snip/...)

1. Yeah right
If he really wanted the troops to be safe he would never had cut their benefits so him and his corporate cronnies could get a tax cut. So Mr. Gonzalez but even if he did say it I doubt he meant it.

2. Advising on ethics? lol
This is the guy who is advising Bush on all his lies? This is the guy who thought ethics was a 3 page brief on the day of an execution? This is the guy who many say will be appointed to the Supreme Court!!!

4. The history he will be remembered for ...will be one of shame...
From the installation of the President to the slaughter of our young men and women in Iraq. Be proud Gonzales. If this makes you happy, you need more help than any of us can offer.

5. "My job is to protect the powers of the presidency," .
really? i don't know about that. i would think your job might be to advise the president on legal matters, not to aggrandize the office or the squatter in it.

anyone else have a take on this?

6. The only "history" I want to witness...
is the day that sorry POS's ass is taken out of the White House for good! And all Gonzales is interested in is kissing the troll's butt and covering his backside.

Just wait Gonzy. When all the real dirt comes out on your boss, you're going to be one busy little man, you can bet on it!

12. Welcome to the revolution
Or actually the post revolution. For certain this is not the America I lived in five years ago. There was plenty to criticise then also but there was also hope and a belief in what was right and wrong.

7. "Tell me, Gonzales, just how many of those 'off-shore entities' did you
design for Enron?" Thousands of ruined lives and hundreds of small businesses lost and millions of consumers cheated.."Are you happy now?"

8. Wow. Deep. History.
Edited on Sun Jul-20-03 07:47 AM by UTUSN
A lawyer should have been in awe more about the illegality of the attack, about the impact on people's lives (ending them), the turning of the country into an aggressor, the violation of sovereignty of other nations, and MANY more facets. He didn't know ahead of time that, apart from the illegality, it would be "historic", that he had to REALIZE this? And Shrub's oh-so-"deep" words, and that HUSH that fell over the room. Wow. Matching lawn jockeys on the Supreme Court.

How lawn jockeys always end up:

9. Wow, I love it
when I have the chane to use this:

:puffpiece:

And this is certainly one of those times. Glad to see the media is jumping right back on the bandwagon and helping the re-select * campaign.

10. I certainly disagree with Joe Lopez (quoted in the article)
Alberto Gonzales is not our voice. Alberto is selling us out - big time. All for his personal gain.

-----------------

Joe Lopez, the incoming chairman of the Mexican American Chambers of Commerce, said Gonzales is a key link for Hispanics to the White House.

"To have somebody at that high level who understands our needs, who has the ear of the president, is a big step," Lopez said. "He's our voice."

11. Too bad Gonzales never gave his testimony on Funeralgate
Corpses dripping embalming fluid under the aegis of George W. Bush... Guess he's fixed that now, because the American soldiers returning from Iraq are all in sealed coffins anyway.
