Turkish Kurd rebels should leave Iraq or face military action (US)

ANKARA (AFP) - Turkish Kurd rebels based in northern Iraq should either leave the region or face military attack, the US ambassador to Turkey said.

Ambassador Robert Pearson told the mass- circulation Hurriyet daily that the United States was determined to purge northern Iraq of militants from the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) -- now renamed KADEK -- which has used the area as a springboard for attacks on Turkey.

Both Washington and Ankara consider the PKK a terrorist organization.

"We want that no threat to Turkey from the PKK remains in Iraq," Pearson was quoted as saying Sunday.

Remember those Turkish SpecOps troops detained by the US in Northern Iraq a while back? An agreement to get rid of the PKK was likely the price of Turkey keeping out of northern Iraq. All of this is relatively above-board as the PKK isn't particularly well liked by much of anyone.

(and neither was PKK). KADEK is not PKK, it has given up armed fight, and fights politically for democracy, human rights and womens rights in Turkey.

3. How does one distinguish a Turkish Kurd rebel from any other Kurd?

They don't wear uniforms identifying who they are? Are we supposed to just walk up and ask them who they are with before we shoot them like a dog? This is all BS. I don't care what anyone says. This is just another way of screwing the Kurds again.

The Turks just want the Kurds screwed as usual. And Bush will do it too. Probably in exchange for getting some troops from them to help out in Bush's oil war.

...BTW, it looks like the UN has pulled most or all of its international staff out of the Mosul-Kirkuk areas...routine due to security (maybe) or prelude (maybe)...???

I'm just guessing, but I reckon that only a few Kurds ever believed the BushCo dog-and-pony show about possible recognition of a Kurdish homeland, be it province or nation...
