AP: Judge Strikes Down Part of Alaska Pot Law
Judge Strikes Down Part of Alaska Pot Law

By MATT VOLZ
The Associated Press
Monday, July 10, 2006; 11:42 PM

JUNEAU, Alaska -- A judge on Monday struck down part of a new Alaska law criminalizing
possession of small amounts of marijuana, saying it conflicts with past decisions
by the Alaska Supreme Court.

Under the ruling, people could legally possess less than an ounce of marijuana in their
homes.

Superior Court Judge Patricia Collins said a lower court can't reverse the high court's
1975 decision that said the right to privacy in one's home included the possession
of small amounts of marijuana for personal use.

Collins granted a summary judgment to the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska,
which sued when the law took effect in June.

1. Key word: "part"...of the new law.

99% of judges are just as much invested in the concept of getting as many people as possible into the criminal justice system as anyone else in the HUGE criminal justice industry complex.

2. I don't understand your response, BuddyYound
Does it have something to do with this?

<snip from the article>
She limited her decision to possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, even though the new law increases penalties for other amounts. Before the law took effect in June, it had been legal in Alaska to possess up to 4 ounces of the drug.
</snip>

It's not clear to me why she did this, but your explanation makes no sense to me.

Help me out with understanding you, please.

thanks

3. Beg to differ.

Large numbers of judges have come out in favor of diverting nonviolent drug offenses out of the criminal justice system -- they have way too many cases to handle as it is.

Some have even come out in favor of legalization.

12. Or, maybe, I don't know
Smoke some?
When I was working up there in the early '90's, the locals would tell of cops coming to partys to tell them to quiet down, and toking up too.
Now, there is some mellow cops, eh?

9. well the thing is, Alaska doesnt have many black people.
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 07:46 AM by SlavesandBulldozers
See, the demon weed makes black men rape white women. So it's not a big problem up there. In the lower 48, though, there would be gangs of savage blacks - crazed on the demon-weed - roving the streets in a manic search for white women.

Hope I've answered your question.
