US to dangle nuclear deal in exchange for Russia's help on Iran

WASHINGTON : The United States has said it is beginning negotiations with Russia on a potentially lucrative nuclear energy accord, but made clear any deal would be conditional on Moscow's full cooperation in US attempts to block Iranian nuclear ambitions.

Russia and China have been a key impediment to efforts by the United States to rally members of the UN Security Council behind its plan to slap international sanctions on Tehran and isolate the Islamic regime in order to force it to halt uranium enrichment.

The issue is expected to be front and center in negotiations between President George W. Bush and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, at a Group of Eight summit in St. Petersburg next weekend.

Although few details of the proposed nuclear deal have been officially released, it is seen as an attempt by the Bush administration to soften Russia's recalcitrance ahead of the Bush-Putin talks and bring Moscow firmly into the US camp.

1. Lords of War..
The movie exposing underground deals depicting the US and Soviets
as #1 & #2 Arms dealers in the world, suppling rebels, insurgents, Ladens
with air power, unlimited automatic weapons and bombs.

Not enough! We have an aging nuclear arsenal primed for reselling.

I hope Putin entraps the SOBs and catches them on tape.

3. "Ok, Putie, we got these neat mini-nukes and some big fellas. Want some?
Tell ya what, we'll throw in some surplus stealth bombers. They're in mothballs, but are flyable. We built so many during the Cold War, we don't know what do with them.

Tell ya what - you can paint them up in Russian colors, and do the bombing runs, and we'll not only give'em to you, we'll pay you! Whatayasay, Putie?

good read!

NYT: Bush Trying to Negotiate With Russia to Receive Spent Nuclear Fuel.

In a new round of outsourcing stupidity, the Bushies are now talking about giving up control of spent nuclear fuel (mostly internationally held) that is legally under US control. This negotiation could conceivably lead to the export of our own spent fuel to Russia.

This is the height of stupidity. Spent nuclear fuel in the United States contains enough recoverable energy to fuel all of our current energy, from oil, gas, coal, renewables combined for about 60 years.

Nations with access to the most spent fuel will probably control the future.

There is no limit to Bushian stupidity and trifling away our future.

8. There are no details on this accord
If I recall correctly from earlier reading, among other things Russia gets the privilege of being a nuclear dump site.

9. I am reading "After the Empire: The Breakdown of the American
Order" by Emmanuel Todd and from what I have read so far I think Putin is the one with the power in this deal and he will not betray Europe. I hope he sticks to his path and refuses to help.
