$5 bill to get a new look to dodge scam

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON -- Thanks to some crafty counterfeiters, the $5 bill
is headed back to the drawing board.

The federal government was going to stay with the design and just
change the look of the bigger bills. But apparently people are
bleaching the ink off $5 bills and printing fake $100 bills on the
paper.
<snip>
The new colors and other design changes haven't been decided,
though President Lincoln is staying put.

1. Smart crooks!
How else do you get that otherwise unobtainable paper?

2. My tinfoil hat responce...
:tinfoilhat:

The value of the dollar is dropping. If the oil exporting nations of the world start changing over to the Euro, that means the value of the dollar will fall dramatically. What to do to keep this from happening? Well one enlightened soul on here stated that by changing the type of currency we use to another form, that would suddenly keep the dollar from falling. But how does one change the currency without other nations freaking out over the ones that they currently have in their own treasuries??? Easy: print new currency under the guise of a harder to counterfeit moniker.

Once all the denominations are covered in this manner, moron* could suddenly state that all U.S. Currency that isn't of the new non-counterfeiting type, is now null and void. Of course this would cause a shit storm around the world, but when did moron* ever not want to cause a shit storm?

Just like I said a tinfoil hat theory.

6. Hrm, interesting. Thanks for posting that. I agree it's tin-foily but...
...the Bush administration has done more than enough things which are shady to warrant that sort of speculation!

7. Except that this five dollar bill is worth the same as the old....
So your point is moot. Sorry.

3. The Bush administration can't even get the $5 bill right?
And I thought their grand opus was making the $10 bill orange.

4. What? They're going to replace the "5"s with "3"s?
After all, this *IS* the administration that's
"as phony as a three-dollar bill"!

5. Wouldn't they just bleach the ink off of $1 bills? I take it they are
printing the old $100 bills. I would guess there are still quite a few of those old $20 and $100 bills squirreled away by "eccentric" types like me. :P

8. I guess they'll have to edit the 20 as well...

...to remove the fallen oak tree.

Ah, the legacy of the 00's
