Brothel owner names johns (CFO - Time Warner Exec)
June 29, 2006

A Brazilian woman charged with running a high-end Manhattan brothel claimed two prominent business executives as clients, according to court papers filed yesterday at her arraignment.

The papers describe allegations made by Andrea Schwartz, 31, during police questioning, including claims that one of the executives gave her $50,000 a year in various gifts and had sex with her several times a month.

The woman has described her relationships with prominent executives in interviews, but this is the first time names have surfaced in court.

Schwartz named Wayne Pace, vice president and chief financial officer of Time Warner Inc., and Bob Voccola, chief investment officer of Barrett Associates, an investment counseling firm, and said they gave her cash and paid many of her bills, court papers say.

Ed Adler, a spokesman for Time Warner Inc., said the company had "conducted a review and found no illegal conduct by Mr. Pace or misuse of corporate funds."

1. I never understod why some people would spend so much on (m)
hookers and strip clubs. You hear stories about guys that spend a couple grand on lap dances and such. Unless its not their money, then all bets are off.

3. Apparently, Pace is a married man
so he's must be very rich to afford a wife and a high end hooker.

Doesn't look like he's did this to save money.

Leans Democratic, but gave also to Arlen Specter...

On edit, he also supported our pal Zell, the Florida GOP, AND the late Strom Thurmond from his address in GA--definitely a "strategic" donor:

I know looks aren't everything, but in this case I could see where a man might be tempted to make an exception.

8. supposed to be "no strings"
obviously, this one is a bit different than that. But, I had thought part of the appeal of a hooker or a stripper is that it is supposed to be a 'no strings attached' type of deal.

You're paying them to leave afterwards. So says Heidi Fleiss (I think.)

5. Ha! Here's a Post article on the Time Warner guy, Wayne Pace:
I'M DOING 'TIME': SEX BABE
'MADAM' & EXEC
By ANGELA MONTEFINISE and BILL SANDERSON

June 17, 2006 -- An alleged high-end madam made bombshell claims yesterday that Time Warner's top financial officer was her "sugar daddy" - showering her with gifts, clothes, cash and even helping her buy an apartment during a four-year "relationship."
"I liked him very much," Brazilian babe Andrea Schwartz said of Wayne Pace, who made $3.7 million last year as chief financial officer of the company that owns CNN, Time Warner cable, People magazine and a slew of other top-flight media properties.

Another "Doh!" Award: Time Warner's Wayne Pace
At least one senior Time Warner manager probably has more on his mind than AOL. According to the Post, an alleged New York high-end madam has fingered TW CFO Wayne Pace as her sugar-daddy. The Post article is waaaaay short on detail (even the alleged madam isn't claiming she slept with Pace, and "helping" someone buy an apartment doesn't necessarily mean forking over suitcases full of cash), but one imagines that the scandal is rocking the Time Warner Center.

Time Warner has yet to respond, but it will have to soon. Unless Pace can persuasively deny any and all of the alleged madam's intimations (a denial that will presumably have to include an explanation of the alleged "help"), he will soon be "pursuing other interests."

Until details emerge, it would be unfair to give the married Pace a Doh! Award for his own actions, if any. But it is fair, I think, to give him one for being the subject of a Post story entitled "Doing Time." For Wayne's sake, here's hoping there's a good explanation.

6. Methinks as long as prostitution is illegal...
it'a more fun for some.

I mean, who really wants to jump into McSchtup for a quickie during lunchtime?

Some more detailed checking of expense accounts would be very interesting. Does anyone have any idea just how many New York whorehouses show up on Amex statments as something like "Canal Sreet Restaurant Associates"?

10. Funny you shouild mention expense accounts...
...this was in the NYTimes just the other day:

Tools Can Catch Expense-Account Padders

Scrooge would be proud: more companies are adopting sophisticated new technology to help track and crack down on employee expense accounts.

(snip)

The software — now used by major companies like Boeing, Campbell Soup, Estée Lauder, J. C. Penney, Ocean Spray and Texas Instruments — is so sophisticated that online digital detectives can spot even the tiniest gap between actual and allowable expenses.

(snip)

But the software is also aimed at catching more devious employees. "There are egregious examples of abuse," said Rajeev Singh, Concur's president and chief operating officer. "The employee who buys a big flat-screen TV, supposedly to hold conferences in his home. Or a manager who tries to lay off the costs of his daughter's wedding by inviting business clients to the marriage. We've seen all that — and more."

(snip)

Another Amex survey, which polled 500 business travelers both here and in Europe last year, showed that nearly 40 percent of business travelers thought expense report abuse was common; 53 percent of American respondents said that the most-abused category was restaurants.

"This window of opportunity to cement ties with clients is often where the most abuse occurs — embellishing, hiding or falsifying reimbursable expenditures," the survey noted. Other areas in which travelers notoriously fudge the numbers are tips, taxis and phone costs. The oldest dodge is to put down fictitious expenses that are just under the radar — the benchmark amount beyond which backup receipts are needed.

18. Even the International Ho'houses know that trick...
Further than this, deponent sayeth not.

Then, there are the morons...

Our company once employed a normally stingy and prudent Bible-thumper who went to Taiwan on a business trip. The guy did a complete Jekyll-and-Hyde. In the pursuit of Original Sin...spelled "hookers"...he spent all his per diem, ran his credit cards up to the max and finally resorted to cadging money from his fellow travelers. (One of his fellow travelers told me the story.)

At least I never tried to fool anybody, except occasionally Accounting. Once I was on a conference call with a foreign company that was thinking about working with us.

One guy at the table said: "We would send someone to your country to live for awhile. Probably Onager. We've used him for this sort of thing before, and he's pretty good at absorbing foreign culture."

My boss muttered: "I can attest to that. I sign his expense reports for foreign travel, and he's sure absorbing a lot of SOMETHING."

(BTW, I'm writing this from Alexandria, Egypt.)

now that the WH is going after the press.

I wonder how many more outings there will be in the coming months. This could get to be fun.
